Y/N'S POV
That same evening, when I went to the fencing hall I found myself in total solitude. I thought maybe the blonde was late for our practice, but the truth is that she never showed up. Nor did she do it the following days, so I had no choice but to practice on my own pointing swords in the air. I did not feel confident to ask someone else to help me with this matter, after all it was a secret that under no circumstances should reach Wednesday's ears.
- Brooke: Here again? - she said when she saw me enter the library - Aren't you going with your friends?
- Y/N: "Friends"? When do they turn from acquaintances to friends? I'm not sure when they became my friends. So let's say they're just acquaintances," - I said as I sat down with a random book at one of the tables.
- Brooke: What are you going to read about today? - she sat down next to me. - Kitsunes? - she said as she read the cover of the book and looked at me.
-Y/N: Yes, I need to be informed about my kind - I smiled - Although my family raised me conscientiously teaching me everything I need to know, sometimes it's good to do your own research.
- Brooke: - nodded and started reading with me - So you're a fox? Basically a spirit that takes care of the forest and sacred sites. Right?
-Y/N: That's the general explanation. As we get older we acquire certain abilities, as well as our number of tails - I looked at her - the more tails a kitsune has, the more powerful it is.
- Brooke: How many do you have? - she looked at me and started laughing when she saw that I didn't answer - Okay, I get it... Just one.
-Y/N: I'm very young! - I excused myself - I still have a lot to learn, that's why I'm here right now. So if you don't mind... I would like to read quietly - I focused my attention on the book.
- Brooke: Sure, I'll leave you alone - she got up and gave me a smile before returning to the counter.
I spent most of the time I was in Japan with my grandparents, they were experienced kitsunes who were willing to show me how everything worked. However, their methods were perhaps not the most effective after all because I never managed to get the second tail that corresponded to me because of my age. That was an issue that frustrated me a lot, but having those negative feelings weren't going to change anything. The only thing I could do to remedy it was to keep trying and keep training my skills.
And all this while preparing me to fight a future hyde and rescue my cousin, because that was the purpose of having been sent to Nevermore. Although my father justified it by saying that it was for my good, deep down I knew that he wouldn't have cared if I had stayed in Japan with my grandparents. He never cared about me and he never would, because he only had eyes for my cousin. I was a small accident arising from a silly slip with my mother, I was never something like her soul child.
I spent most of the afternoon locked in the library researching about my kind, until Brooke warned me that it was going to close and I would come home. I had no choice but to leave and head back to my room. There I would rest for a while before going to dinner so that later I could return to fencing practice. Would Enid come to train with me? I hadn't seen her for days, and I didn't quite understand why she was suddenly so busy.
-Y/N: I'm back already - I said opening the door and finding Yoko lying on the floor - I'm not going to ask - I walked over her to my bed.
-Yoko: How little do you care about me - she complained as she got up - Where were you? You haven't replied to my messages.
-Y/N: There is not very good coverage in the library - I lay down and closed my eyes - Wake me up for dinner time.
-Yoko: You always do the same thing lately - she came to my bed - You ignore everyone in class, in the afternoons you go to the library and then at night you leave without saying where you are going. Are you angry?
- Y/N: No. Why would I be?
- Yoko: I don't know, I thought that like Enid you would be angry... - she sat on my bed - You're not going to throw me on the floor just for sitting, are you? I'm keeping my distance.
-Y/N: - I turned around and looked at her - Is Enid angry? Why?
- Yoko: I don't know... Maybe because you've suddenly replaced her with the normie from the library. What's her name? Brenda?
-Y/N: Brooke, and no, I haven't replaced anyone with anyone - I sat looking at her seriously - She's the one who's been avoiding me lately.
- Yoko: I'll just tell you that you should talk to her... Lycanthropes are very sensitive, you should know that. In fact, since you spend so much time between books, you could do a little research on what they're like. Maybe that way you can understand her better - she said before getting up and going to her closet - I'm going to take a shower, when I come out I'll wake you up and we're going to have dinner.
I fell asleep thinking about how to work things out with Enid, I didn't even know she was upset. It occurred to me that it would be best to talk to her during dinner, because if I managed to arrange things, then she could come with me to fencing practice. I showered after Yoko and we both headed to the cafeteria for dinner, as always our "friends" were waiting for us. I sat in the middle of my cousin and Enid, I needed to talk to her and get her to stop ignoring me.
-Wednesday: It feels like it's been forever since you last sat down with us.
-Y/N: Have you missed me, cousin? - I grinned.
-Wednesday: Your presence is so discreet and insignificant that I wouldn't have noticed your absence if it wasn't because I've had to put up with Enid's bad faces all these days - she pinched me - Talk to her and make her stop being in such a bad mood.
-Enid: I'm listening to you, - said seriously - And I'm not in a bad mood.
-Y/N: And why have you been ignoring me these days? There was no way to talk for even five minutes.
-Enid: You were too busy with your new little friend - I rolled my eyes as I heard her say that - You haven't had time for anyone else besides her.
-Y/N: I've been doing an important thing - I justified myself.
-Wednesday: I demand to know what that important thing is - she pulled my arm to get my attention - What have you been up to? Does it have to do with my parents? Are you an infiltrator?
-Y/N: You're obsessed with them - I shook my head - I've been researching about my species, there are several books about kitsunes in the library.
- Wednesday: Oh... Wow, you really have become someone boring these past few years. I thought it was about something much more interesting - she pushed me towards Enid - You can go on with your apology.
-Y/N: I wasn't apologizing - I looked at Enid and saw how she was crossing her arms - Or maybe I was - I corrected - Could we talk alone?
- Ajax: Hey, we're all friends here... Whatever you have to say, you say it in front of everyone - he said proudly.
- Yoko: Don't pay attention to him, his snakes have to shed their skin so that the blood reaches his brain again - she pushed Ajax - There's another free table there, we'll leave you alone - she grabbed my cousin by the hood and she threatened to pierce her hand with a fork.
We both stood in silence watching as everyone walked away and changed tables to leave us alone. But what was I really going to tell her? I had never had to apologize to someone my age, it had always been to my grandparents for not meeting their expectations. I looked around and sighed as I realized that my abilities to interact with others were lousy.
- Enid: Well? What do you have to say?
-Y/N: I've been waiting for you every day - I said looking into her eyes - Every night, in the fencing hall.
- Enid: Really? - her eyes started to sparkle but she got serious again - So what? How did you intend me to be there if I was upset with you? It's obvious I wasn't going to go.
-Y/N: I didn't know you were upset, I don't even know very well why you were upset... Is it because I went to the library without you? I didn't know you were interested in learning about Kitsunes.
- Enid: It's not that, it's just that I heard you talking to Brooke - she crossed her arms - You're going to have a date with her this weekend. Right? I was a little annoyed that you suddenly made plans with someone other than me, I thought that you and I were a team. That we were on the same side...
-Y/N: And we are! The thing is, I haven't had a chance to update you on the progress of our secret plan because you've been ignoring me - I cleared my throat - Brooke's thing this weekend is not a date, we've just met because we've made a deal.
- Enid: What deal? - she said softening her expression - Is it really not a date?
-Y/N: - I nodded - I have an appointment with her because they have requisitioned all the books about hyde, there are none in the academy. Director Duncan has taken them all to her house, but Brooke has agreed to give them to me in exchange for protection.
- Enid: Protection? From what?
-Y/N: She's a normie in a school full of vampires, gorgons, werewolves... And she's really scared of my cousin and her serial killer vibe - I let out a giggle - so in exchange for protecting her, Brooke will take me to her house and give me the books. But come on, you can come too... We're a team right now. Right? - I finished talking and then Enid's claws suddenly appeared next to her tail and her wolf ears - Are you okay? - I said surprised.
- Enid: Yes, I don't know... I don't know why this has happened - she said nervously - Do you want me to come with you this weekend?
-Y/N: What does it matter what I want? I'm just saying come if you want - I said averting my gaze - Although it would be nice if you came.
-Enid: - she smiled - Suddenly I don't hate you so much anymore - she let out a giggle and came a little closer to me.
-Y/N: Don't touch me - I warned her - by the way... Should we exchange mobile numbers? Since I haven't seen you, I haven't had a chance to do it either. It's good to have another way of communication - I said before I felt my mobile vibrate when I received a notification.
"I already have it 💗 "
-Enid: - she smiled and winked at me - I asked Yoko for it days ago.
