I Miss You

With a sense of anticipation, Olivia arrived at the stunning venue for the fundraiser. It was housed in a grand ballroom nestled within the prestigious Blackman Hotel, which stood tall in the heart of the city. The building itself exuded an atmosphere of elegance and sophistication. As she stepped out of the taxi, she was immediately struck by the sight of tall columns adorned with cascading ivy leading up to the entrance. As she made her way up the steps, she felt dwarfed by the sheer magnitude of the building.

With each step towards the entrance, Olivia's heart quickened with excitement. But as she approached the lavish doors, her excitement began to wane. She was denied access due to the lack of an invitation. The bouncer's stern look and dismissive wave made her feel instantly dejected and out of place.

Resigning herself to stand outside and watch from afar, Olivia began to feel envious of the well-dressed guests walking past her. Her eyes flickered with longing as they disappeared into the opulent venue. But just when she thought her night was ruined, a stroke of luck came her way.

Overhearing a conversation nearby, Olivia's ears perked up at the mention of an absent singer. A man named Jack was speaking urgently on his phone, trying to find a replacement. A spark of hope ignited within Olivia as she realized this could be her chance to salvage her evening and gain access to the event.

"Excuse me," she interjected, catching Jack's attention. "I hear you need a singer?"

Jack turned to her, his expression a mixture of surprise and hope. "Yes, that's correct," he replied eagerly. "Do you happen to know any songs? We need someone urgently."

With a confident nod, Olivia listed a few popular tunes she knew by heart. "I can help," she offered.

Jack's face lit up with relief. "That's fantastic!" he exclaimed. "How much do you charge?"

After a brief negotiation, Olivia agreed to Jack's terms, grateful for the opportunity.

As Olivia stepped into the grand ballroom, her senses were immediately overwhelmed by the lavish elegance surrounding her. The room exuded opulence, with towering ceilings adorned with intricate chandeliers casting a warm, golden glow over the space. Rich tapestries adorned the walls, depicting scenes of historical significance, while ornate columns rose majestically from the marble floors. The air was filled with various scents, from the women's floral perfume to the rich aroma of decadent food being served. The soft scent of candles burning added to the overall ambiance of the space.

Crisp linens and sparkling crystalware adorned tables throughout the room, each set with delicate floral arrangements that added a touch of freshness to the air. Soft music floated through the room, adding to the ambiance of sophistication and refinement.

Guests, dressed in their finest attire, mingled and conversed animatedly, their laughter and clinking glasses filling the air with a celebration mood. Despite her initial feelings of dejection, Olivia couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the grandeur of her surroundings. This was a world of wealth and privilege, and for a moment, she felt as though she had stepped into a fairytale.

As Olivia hurried backstage with Jack to prepare for her set, she couldn't shake the sinking feeling in her chest. Something had been pulling her here tonight, and it was yet to be determined whether that pull was good or bad.

The backstage area was a whirlwind of activity, with crew members bustling about adjusting lighting and sound equipment while Olivia hastily went over her song choices with Jack.

Peeking through the curtain, her eyes landed on Ethan, who stood like a regal figure amidst the crowd. He was the epitome of power and confidence, commanding the room with his mere presence. His tailored suit accentuated his broad shoulders and chiseled jawline, exuding an aura of authority that drew everyone's attention.

But Olivia's heart plummeted when she saw him standing next to Lauren, who clung to his arm with a possessive grip. An older gentleman, presumably Lauren's father, joined their conversation. The sight of them together, sharing laughs and smiles, sent a pang of jealousy through Olivia's chest. It was clear that Ethan and Lauren shared a closeness that went beyond mere business.

As Olivia watched them interact, her mind raced with doubts and insecurities. Was this the price Ethan was willing to pay for a business deal? Was he secretly harboring feelings for Lauren? The thought of betrayal gnawed at her, casting a shadow over the once-promising evening.

As Olivia was pacing the floor, her phone lit up. Her heart clenched at the sight of Ethan's message. "I miss you." Three simple words, yet they carried a weight of complexity that sent a wave of anguish through her. How could he miss her when he was standing there, arm in arm with Lauren, laughing as if nothing had ever been amiss between them?

Her mind filled with a whirlwind of emotions as she read the text. Anger, betrayal, and heartbreak surged within her, threatening to consume her composure. How could he send such a message, knowing full well where he was and who he was with? It felt like a cruel joke, a slap in the face to her already wounded heart.

Olivia tossed her phone aside with a bitter scoff, unable to bear the conflicting emotions coursing through her. She couldn't afford to dwell on Ethan's message now. She had a performance to deliver and needed to summon every ounce of strength to push aside her turmoil and step into the spotlight.
