"Where's Angel?"

I rolled my eyes. Haven't heard that question almost every day over the past week. Honestly kid, I wish I knew.

"He's busy," I replied half-heartedly, dragging my bicycle along.

"But he said he'd walk me home everyday and never did..." She pouted.

"Let me teach you something about the real world, darling... People always make promises and don't keep them."

"Then why do they make promises?"

"Honestly... Because they're assholes."

Her eyes widened slightly.

"But don't tell your dad I said that," I said quickly. She pursed her lips, looking at the ground thoughtfully.

"But, you're here everyday. And you're never late."

"Well..." I paused, tilting my head thoughtfully, "It's my job to take care of you, so I don't really have a choice there."

"So you're not an asshole."

"Hey! Don't say that word!"

"Don't worry. Daddy's not here," she said, giving me a sly smile. I side-eyed her, shaking my head slightly.
