Forty Two

As a familiar, nostalgic melody began to play, Vincent brought the microphone to his lips and began to sing. His voice was surprisingly smooth and luscious, beautifully sitting on top of the music as if it belonged there. I was so distracted by his voice that I forgot it was my turn to sing, clumsily lifting my mic up to sing along with him.

"And I wonder if I ever cross your mind

For me it happens all the time~

It's a quarter after one

I'm all alone and I need you now

Said I wouldn't call, but I lost all control and I need you now

And I don't know how I can do without

I just need you now~"

Vincent smiled as my voice easily blended with his, small and unconfident at first but gradually becoming more resonant. He nodded at me slowly, encouragingly, as we wrapped up the chorus and I began to sing the second verse on my own.
