EMAL'S POV
The voices of my father and Blake rings consecutively in my ear and I can't contain my pain any longer. I need to do away with the welled-up emotion in me. Else, I might die of anger suffocation. I thought of leaving the castle again to calm myself, but it would attract the attention of the guards. I'm very sure father would have given them a strict instruction after what happened the previous day.
My thought drops on Matilda and I can't help but head for her room. I need someone to soothe and calm me before I can sleep. The boiling emotion in me is making me feel full and frustrated. Upon reaching her room, her maid tells me that she was in the bath. I guess it's a wrong timing on my part. I should have thought of that before heading over. Giving my legs the chance to fulfill their purpose, I find myself out of her castle at last, though without any specific direction or place in mind. All I need is some calmness.
I continue my walk through the empty field across the castle, when I suddenly heard a faint sound on the opposite direction far away from me. It was the sound of someone walking with something dragging behind him or her on the ground. Who could it be? I followed the direction of the sound quickly only to see someone with a long hood covering all part of her. Yes, her. From the figure and the style of hood, I knew it was a female. Only female in the pack use such fancy item.
Trailing behind the person as the person walks ahead, I catch the sight of another female walking ahead. Their backs are turned to me, so I can't figure out who it is so quickly and through the darkness of the night. I could have tried using smell, but I'm not capable enough yet. Suddenly, the figure stops walking and I quickly hide away from sight, peeping through a little space. At the last minute, she turns. Damn! Why would she turn just when I'm about to have a good look at her face?
Though, she turned but didn't move. Then, I hear some whispers. It was the lady I saw in front of the fully covered lady.
"Your Ladyship, what's wrong?" She asked. My eyes widened at the revelation. Mother? What could be making her act so sneaky at the moment? Now, all I want is to follow her. Well, she might be on some secret mission. I try to conclude, though with some doubt in my mind. After all, the ways of the palace are so complicated. Too complicated for me.
"Nothing, I just felt the presence of someone behind us." Luna replies, continuing her walk ahead. Heavens, if I knew she is the one, I might not have followed her. I would be in soup if she catches my scent. But not now, I want to see the end of this. For some reason, I'm finding it fun. It's like I'm playing a game with someone. A hide and seek game.
"It should be something else, your Ladyship. I checked before we left. Everyone is in their rooms already and most of them are almost asleep." The lady in front of the Luna, who I suppose is her maid replies and they continue walking to their destination and I followed suit immediately.
After what looks like twenty minutes, they finally stop. The route we passed is somehow new to me. I haven't seen a place like it ever since I was born in the castle. But my mind didn't want to think about it. My full concentration is all on the Luna. She was so fast that I have to run to catch up with her.
In front of where we are is a wall of crawling leaves. What is she doing here by this time of the night? I can't help but wonder. She looks around her suspiciously before turning a lock on the opposite side of the wall. Immediately, the wall opened. No, it isn't a wall. It is a concrete door with an illusion of leaves covering them. I am not so dumb to figure that out.
However, one thing bothers me. I once read in a book that illusions are only created by witches and werewolves don't have the power, how come the leaf illusion is here? I waste no time in sneaking through the entrance like a rat before it closes. In the secret compartment is a little garden with a chair in the middle. I quickly hide myself behind a flower with the most increased scent to prevent getting found.
"You can stay over there," Luna directs her maid and the latter obeys. Mother sits on the chair, smiles on her face as she looks ahead of her. What's making her smile? I crane my neck higher to see what it is. Well, it seems like there's no need. A tall man comes out from nowhere, sitting beside her and giving her a peck on her cheek.
Verily, it's not father because the rhythm of his breath is far different from his. I almost gasp at the realization of what's going on. Mother is having an affair?! I immediately cover my mouth with my hand to prevent any sound from coming out of it. I'm finding it hard to believe what my eyes is seeing.
The man kisses her lips and she reciprocates. Hot blood rush through my veins at the scene and I feel like storming towards them and probably land them some blows, but that would mean death for me.
"I'm not in the mood for this," Luna says, her voice coming out like a moan. Gross.
"What's wrong?" Her companion asks her, as she looks at him in the eyes silently.
"Don't you think it's high time we step up the game?"
"What do you mean?"
Luna sighs at first before answering him, "Marcus queried me today. He asked me why I punished his son and you need to see the look in his eyes. It was like he was ready to tear me up at that moment."
"Why did you punish him?" The man asks with furrowed brows.
"I only used that as a cover. He almost discovered the secret in my room yesterday. I was shocked to see him in my room when I came out of the hideout."
"Next time, you should be careful. You don't have to worry about him. You know, he's not as smart for you to worry about him."
"I'm not worried about that. My fear is the bond he has with Marcus. Marcus has been giving him several opportunities for his powers to arise. It would be too late to carry out our plan once he has someone to back him up."
"But you're his mother. You should know the ways to make him do your bidding."
"He can never be my son" Luna fires angrily. "You know how much I dread seeing his face and his resemblance to that woman."
Immediately I hear this, my knees turn liquid and I nearly give myself out. What are they talking about? I've been trying to understand their conversation since, but now, it seems like it's about me. I'm confused about what happened exactly. What do they mean by their discussion? Does that mean she's not my mother right from time?
No wonder I've always felt different with her. The way she handles me is quite different from what should be. Wait, if she is not my mother, then who is? I can't contain the mixed feelings that develop in me.
"I understand what you mean, dear. You just have to continue caring for him. You know, we never can tell what happens with him the very next minute. I want you to continue being nice to him. Who knows, he might be useful to us if at all his power shows now." Says Blake's father.
The Luna hums for a while before nodding her head.
"I just wish we can get everything done quickly so that I can be with you. Marcus does not love me. He has never stopped loving that woman."
Which woman are they talking about? I run out of the place quickly, without stopping or taking a stop.
