Ep. 0, Prologue — Chapter 1: Enter, Player 100!

[World Ascension].

A famous MMORPG game that was still in its early stages—and I happened to be amongst the first 100 people to get my hands on the game. Even I thought that was absurd.

When I think about, the fact that I managed to become someone so lucky to get the game's early release was still like a dream to me. Unbelievable. Too lucky for someone like me, considering I've had pretty bad luck throughout my entire life.

But it wasn't so bad that being unlucky would become one of my traits. It was on a normal scale, but make that a little more than a normal person would.

And that also includes in my writing career. After a few years of writing—and with over a hundred different drafts and ideas, the amount I managed to actually publish was zero. Not a single one.

I did, however, post a few chapters before and after waiting for a while, it only received less than 10 reads. Pathethic, really, especially since I considered it to be my 'masterpiece'.

Not that it matters now. After seeing so many of those 'don't write for other people, write for yourself' quotes, I eventually adopted that mindset and continued to write. Before, I always found me ridiculing myself, considering I was still writing even though I was getting readers that could he counted with one hand. But I think it's a little unfair that I get to complain, when other authors probably worked ten times as hard as I did. And I felt a bit guilty of a attributing 'luck' to their success.

Even though I stopped being so hardcore about writing, I would eventually get a few paragraphs in. After every 3-4 days, I'd finish writing a chapter. And aside from that, there was the new game that I had just purchased.

I wasn't a hardcore gamer, unlike what others may expect. I wouldn't say I'm very skilled in them either, but I gamed pretty occasionally—not enough where I could be considered 'addicted', though.

Either way, I was really looking forward to this game. Despite having gotten the game a few months ago, I never really bothered to play it until now. And there was something else I realised as I unwrapped the box it came in.

[Congratulations! You have received the 100th copy of 'World Ascension'!]

Oh? Not only did I manage to get one of the 100 early releases, but I also got the last one. The 100th copy. I guess it is true that good and bad fortunes are intertwined.

[Welcome to 'World Ascension'!]

After finally signing up for the game, I watched the bright loading screen. It took a bit for it to load, most likely since it was the first time I logged in. Coincidentally, I happened to look at the clock on the wall then.

[1:00 AM].

I picked up the cup of coffee I had made earlier and started sipping it. Then, the screen flashed, and another set of words appeared.

[Enter, Player 100!]
