Chapter 91: The Eternals

"Tenochtitlan..."

Oaks furrowed his brow. Indeed, the appearance of the people outside wasn't of Mediterranean style, but rather reminiscent of Mexican heritage.

The name Tenochtitlan might not be familiar to the average person.

But Oaks had come across it while perusing mythological stories from around the world.

It was the largest city in the Western Hemisphere over 500 years ago, the capital of the Aztec Empire, which was later conquered by the Spanish. The ruins now lay beneath present-day Mexico City.

"This city has been extinct for almost 500 years..."

Oaks turned his head to glance at the people outside.

"These people have been living here for so long?"

"By this year, 490 years, spanning twenty generations."

Druig calm down with a smile, but his eyes were seemingly flickering with the raging fire of that night 490 years ago.

"In 1521, the genocide that occurred in Tenochtitlan compelled me to isolate them from the world. I couldn't save everyone, but I could at least save those around me."

"..."

Oaks let out a sigh—Druig's words carried significant information.

Having experienced the rise of the Sumerian civilization and being familiar with the Babylonian kingdom, secluded for 490 years...

"But you don't seem like someone who has lived for thousands of years, and I'm not talking about appearances."

Suppressing the growing sense of unease, Oaks found a seat and sat down.

"Also, is it appropriate to tell so much to a stranger like me?"

"Your abilities are quite special, making me feel... a long-lost sense of familiarity."

Druig chuckled lightly and returned to his seat. A villager entered and brought tea for the two.

Finally, Oaks discovered where the sense of dissonance came from.

"You... are controlling the minds of these people?!"

He frowned, looking at Druig, who had just been wearing a smile, with a serious expression.

"Is this your ability? Why would you do such a thing?"

"It's to protect them from harm, both external and self-inflicted."

The smile on Druig's face disappeared.

"Young man... the world of humans is filled with war and slaughter. Humans have been killing one another since the dawn of civilization and have never stopped. Even now, when human society and technology have reached unprecedented heights, these things remain unchanged from seven thousand years ago—

The only difference is that the scale of killing among humans has grown unprecedentedly."

Druig calmly gazed at Oaks, who wore a solemn expression. Under his control, the villagers gathered together and silently faced off against the church.

"City-state wars, kingdom wars, continental wars, world wars...

Cold weapons, cavalry, firearms, cannons, planes, tanks, nuclear weapons...

Contradictions clash, violence clashes, fear clashes, greed clashes, belief clashes...

Tell me, young man, as the masters of civilization on this planet, why are humans so eager to kill one another?

And if you have the ability to stop it, but are forced to stand by and observe, witnessing the tragedy replay itself for seven thousand years...

What would you do?"

"Seven thousand years..."

Oaks fell silent.

That was essentially the length of human civilization.

The Mesopotamian Plain, the Tigris-Euphrates valley—the recognized earliest centers of human civilization—had a history of approximately seven thousand years.

"Who are you, really?"

Oaks glanced at the silent villagers outside, whose eyes, without exception, had turned the same metallic color as Druig's.

"A self-proclaimed alien god? Don't you realize that controlling someone's mind is the greatest sacrilege against human nature?"

"...I am not a god, 'we' are not gods."

Druig fell silent for a moment, then slowly spoke, a hint of confusion flashing across his face.

"Although I made the decision to leave them... I still haven't figured out if we are truly helping to build a better world for humanity.

Could our mission... be wrong?"

"You... what do you mean by 'we'?!"

Oaks couldn't help but smile bitterly.

The person before him, possessing extraordinary cosmic powers, was not alone.

And he alone, with such terrifying abilities, could rule the world if he wanted to.

But as such a person, not only did he have companions, but they had also come to Earth because of some 'mission'!

The only good news now was that it seemed he had fallen out with his companions.

"I've already said a lot today, young man—you should leave."

After a moment of silence, Druig stood up slowly, clasping his hands in front of his abdomen.

"And I don't want to expose myself to human society at the moment... so, I'm sorry, but I need to erase your memories."

"You're overestimating yourself."

A jade-green light enveloped Oaks' body, and to Druig's surprise, new leaves rapidly sprouted from the withered branches of a thick tree trunk that ran through the church!

In the moment when Druig's attention was diverted, Oaks' figure disappeared without a trace!

"Interesting ability."

A faint smile played at the corners of Druig's mouth. For humans, his mental control was utterly irresistible.

"Even if you're invisible, I can... What?!"

Druig's smile froze, for beside his neck was a beast's claw, sharp as a dagger!

"A Druid... I see."

Thinking of the peculiarities of druids in Celtic mythology, Druig sighed.

"But as long as you appear..."

"Stop, you... Ugh!"

Oaks groaned, and in a burst of light, he transformed back into his human form!

Oaks was struck by Druig, suffering a blow to his spirit—

No matter how magical the Nature Energy is, it still fell under the category of magic, and spiritual power was the key to controlling magic!

While Druig couldn't directly control Oaks' spirit, his immense cosmic power greatly disturbed Oaks' mind!

Druidic spells, whether beast transformation, plant manipulation, or cosmic energy...

All fell under the realm of magic!

"Your spirit is peculiar... protected by a special energy."

Druig instinctively touched his neck, where a thin thread of blood appeared.

"But as long as you are an intelligent being, you cannot pass my test."

"I am from the Eternal race of Olympia, Druig. Today's meeting ends here—

It was nice meeting you, and then, farewell."

His eyes turned metallic, and as his cosmic energy enhanced his spiritual power, he prepared to unleash a greater output to shatter Oaks' mental defenses!

"Roar—!"

With a roar that sounded like a mix of an eagle's cry and a beast's roar, Druig was shocked to see the red-haired young man, who had just been clutching his head in pain, instantly transform into a never-before-seen creature!

"What is this?!"

"Whoosh!"

A dazzling beam of sunlight broke through the layers of jungle and rooftops, directly striking Druig!

"Spurt!"

The formidable mental power Druig was gathering was instantly dissipated by the beam of light, and it felt as if he had received a heavy blow to the head, causing him to spew a mouthful of blood!

He tried to speak, but when he opened his mouth, no sound came out!
