Chapter 197: Aether Particles

"Do the healers have any solutions?"

Oaks glanced at Jane Foster, who tried to observe the Soul Forge somewhat restlessly. He raised an eyebrow and said, "Her life force is still declining. Is there any way to extract that thing?"

"No, we haven't found a solution."

Thor shook his head dejectedly. "The energy within that thing is too immense. We don't even have a safe way to study it, let alone figure out how to extract it.

If we forcefully come into contact with it, it might cause an energy eruption, just like what happened on Earth before—

The explosion is not meant to protect Jane, but to protect itself."

"In that case, it seems we can only seek the help of King Odin. Perhaps he knows what it is."

Oaks patted Thor's shoulder and said, "Baldur can't hold off the king for long. I'm afraid the moment we step into Asgard, the king already knows... We can't keep this a secret, so it's better to be open about it."

"But my father and Jane..."

Thor scratched his head in distress and hesitated.

"Jane is, after all, just an ordinary person. Even on Earth, people still have prejudices based on social status, let alone the King of Asgard."

Oaks tried to console Thor. In reality, Jane's situation wasn't as complicated as it seemed. If Thor was still the sole heir and successor to the throne of Asgard, Odin would never allow his queen to be a mere human with a lifespan of a hundred years.

However, with Baldur now as a backup, Thor's interest in the throne had waned, and he was almost certain that he didn't want to inherit it. He also knew very well that this would greatly increase his chances of being with Jane.

But now it seemed that Odin hadn't given up on him yet, because ever since Baldur's resurrection, he had "lying low" written all over his face!

Even if they were both vying for the throne, Odin didn't seem to care; otherwise, why would he have said, "You are born to be kings" to Thor and Loki when they were young?

However, this complete reversal of circumstances made Odin very anxious.

Therefore, it would be quite strange for Odin to have any positive feelings towards Jane Foster, who was the "culprit" behind his son's reluctance to take the throne.

"Perhaps you can first take Jane to see the Queen. Generally speaking, as a mother, she might be more accommodating, right?"

Oaks still hadn't sensed Odin's arrival, so it seemed that Baldur had made quite an effort.

"Yes!"

Thor suddenly realized, and Queen Frigga, who is known as the wisest person in Asgard, might have a solution.

Thor hastily brought Jane to the Queen's chamber and was about to barge in, but Jane held him back.

"Have you told your parents about me?"

"Not yet... But my mother won't mind. Let's go."

Thor walked forward, but Jane held him back again.

"Um... Do I need to say anything when we first meet? What style does your mother like..."

"The Queen is Asgard's most powerful sorceress. Even Loki's skills were taught by her."

Oaks looked at Jane, who seemed a little frightened to meet her partner's parents, and felt like laughing.

"Dr. Foster, we must make good use of our time. My spells can replenish your life force, but that thing inside you will continuously drain your life force and grow stronger. If it becomes too powerful, I don't know what might happen."

Thor gave Oaks a discreet thumbs-up.

"Alright... I got it!"

Jane smiled awkwardly. At least with Oaks, the third wheel, present, it felt more like an official matter...

"Dr. Oaks, if there's anything inappropriate, please remind me!"

Thor led the way, and Jane quietly sought assistance from Oaks, who was always maintaining his spell on her.

"After all, we are both from Earth, right?"

"Yes... Don't worry, the Queen is very gentle."

Oaks discreetly gestured ahead. Jane looked up and saw an elegant and noble woman seated gracefully behind two screens, and she was smiling as she watched them.

Although she seemed to have experienced a long passage of time based on her attire, appearance, and aura, her face showed no signs of the ravages of age. Comparing herself to her, Jane felt that her own skin was utterly lacking.

Oaks greeted Queen Frigga with a slight bow. "Your Highness, I apologize for the intrusion."

"Oaks, you are Asgard's sage, the royal advisor, and a good friend of Thor and Baldur. You are always welcome here."

Frigga glanced at Thor, who was scratching his head with a silly smile. "At least you won't bring me troublesome matters like my inattentive son does from time to time."

"Hehe, hehehe... Mother."

Thor grinned as he put down his hammer, and introduced, "This is Jane Foster."

"Jane, this is my mother, Frigga."

"Madam."

Jane nervously smiled. "Nice to meet you."

"I know you, Jane."

Frigga's eyes, seemingly filled with magic, looked at the mortal woman who her son had been thinking about day and night. She slowly stood up.

"But it seems that you are in trouble now."

"Mother, Jane has encountered something strange..."

Immediately, Thor detailed the previous events to Frigga. As she listened, her previously calm expression grew solemn.

She quickly walked up to Jane and nodded slightly at Oaks, who was standing to the side. Oaks nodded back and stopped his spell.

"Uh..."

With Oaks' spell no longer sustaining her, Jane's vision immediately blurred. Thor quickly caught her.

"This is a manifestation of life force depletion."

Frigga glanced at her anxious son without changing her demeanor. A magical radiance emanated from her hand as she lightly brushed Jane's arm.

"This is impossible..."

Her expression had changed from solemn to serious.

"Thor, go get your father immediately!"

"Huh? But Mother, Father's feelings towards Jane..."

"Now is not the time to consider such matters."

Frigga interrupted Thor in an unusual stern tone, displaying the authority of the queen.

"Do you remember the story I once told you about the Dark Elves?"

"The Dark Elves?"

Thor was startled.

"The Dark Elves of Svartalfheim? But didn't Grandfather already eradicate them?"

"But they left something remarkable behind."

Frigga looked at the dark red veins beneath Jane's arm's skin and furrowed her brow slightly.

"Aether particles... dormant for five thousand years, and now they have reappeared."

"Oaks, maintain the spell to replenish her life force. Otherwise, Jane may lose consciousness at any moment. Thor, hurry!"

"No need!"

An aged yet infinitely dignified voice sounded from outside, startling both Thor and Jane.

Oaks and Frigga turned their heads, and there stood Odin at the doorway, adorned in battle armor and holding the Gungnir. Baldur followed behind him and looked as if he had done his best.

"You... follow me."

Odin looked at Thor with a stern gaze, but he didn't enter and turned around to leave.

"Frigga, contact Loki and have him return!"
