Chapter 329: Marking the Skrulls

In front of a slightly old single-story villa in Louisiana, two men and women in their fifties were sitting at a picnic table, chatting.

A young woman with an afro walked out of the villa, holding two beverage acorns in her hands and placing them on the picnic table.

"To be honest, even though it's been so many years, you still look quite disheveled, Uncle Fury."

Monica Rambeau crossed her arms and looked at Nick Fury, who was conversing with her mother, Maria Rambeau.

She had experienced amazing adventures with this uncle of hers and Aunt Carol when she was a child, which kept her curiosity for new things alive till now.

And her enthusiasm not only didn't fade away but grew stronger.

"You still haven't told me when Aunt Carol will come back?"

Monica gave a stern look at Nick Fury, who was casually taking the beverage acorns over.

"My mom is getting up in years, and you dragged her out to do such difficult work!"

"Monica, I'm doing this voluntarily."

Maria rolled her eyes, but she also wanted to know the news of her best friend.

"It's just a pity that I don't know if I'll be alive to see Carol come back. She should still look the same as before, not aging at all, right?"

"...That's true."

Nick Fury took a sip of juice and his eyes lit up. Upon hearing Maria's complaint, he smirked.

"I'm worried about that too, but I think before I kick the bucket, she'll come back to see me, right?"

After laughing with Maria, Nick Fury looked at Monica, who wore a helpless expression.

"By the way, you've joined S.W.O.R.D. Are you satisfied with this job?"

"I'm just a small fry."

Monica shrugged indifferently, showing no interest.

"And why did the mastermind like you suddenly think of establishing such an organization?"

"Mastermind? Monica, that nickname really hurts my feelings—"

Nick Fury exaggeratedly spread his hands.

"If we don't take action, the U.S. government will find some random politician to handle extraterrestrial affairs, and that will be troublesome—

You don't want them to uncover Carol's secrets, right?"

"So you're taking the initiative?"

Monica pulled a chair and sat down. She rested her chin on her hand and stared intently at Nick Fury.

"Indeed, you're a cunning and sly director, but this is still an official organization. What role do you plan to play in it?

And regarding extraterrestrial civilizations, the Avengers have Thor, will he provide assistance?"

"You know Thor himself is an alien, and he doesn't even have a cell phone. This matter has to be handled by humans themselves."

Maria took over her daughter's question and gently shook her head.

"Monica, when it comes to understanding extraterrestrial life, the former consultant of S.H.I.E.L.D. has a lot to say."

"You mean Chairman Oaks of the Benevolence Society?"

Monica's eyes lit up, but then she sighed and slumped on the table.

"Forget it, Chairman Oaks doesn't even pay attention to S.H.I.E.L.D., let alone this newly established S.W.O.R.D.

The Avengers have recently increased their speed and precision in dealing with threats by several levels. Rumor has it that it's due to the technology developed by him, Stark, and Doctor Banner.

They have both the strength and influence on a global scale. S.W.O.R.D. doesn't even have enough staff yet."

"I invited him to discuss this matter before. He agreed."

Maria shook her phone, and glanced discreetly at Nick Fury, who was enjoying the beverage acorns.

"Chairman Oaks is quite familiar with the races in the nine realms of Asgard. At least, we should clarify the situation about these neighbors at our doorstep."

"Hmm... Is this Maria Rambeau's house?"

Just as Maria finished speaking, a voice came from the sky:

"But why do I see a certain annoying baldie here?"

"..."

"A certain annoying baldie" rolled his eyes and looked up. His mouth slowly widened.

"What is this? Santa Claus?"

Oaks was riding on Malorn, floating in the air. With his red hair, he did resemble Santa Claus wearing a Santa hat to some extent...

Yeah, right!

"Santa Claus doesn't ride a stag, he rides a sleigh pulled by reindeers."

Monica stood up in an instant from her previous slumped posture, her eyes were shining as she looked at Malorn, who was radiating a faint glow all over.

"And... Santa Claus has a big white beard, he's not this handsome, and his physique isn't this good!"

"..."

Malorn rolled his eyes and slowly descended from the air like walking down the stairs.

"Chairman, she said you're handsome and have a good physique. Looks like she's taken a liking to you."

"You misheard, that's not the case."

Oaks moved his lips without changing his expression and got down from Malorn's back.

"Learn less gossip. These people have big shots behind them."

He secretly sensed the life signature of "Nick Fury," compared it with the real Nick Fury, and a faint smile curled up at the corner of his mouth. He stepped forward and shook hands with Maria, who came forward to greet him.

"Director Maria Rambeau, pleasure to meet you... When you said you and this guy are old acquaintances, I was quite surprised—

This guy's list of trusted individuals even includes non-agents?"

"Probably because when we first met, he was still a grassroots personnel?"

Maria laughed:

"Or maybe because I'm one of the few people who know what happened to his eyes?

How's Goose doing?"

"Goose is doing great. It's the ruler of an entire forest in our headquarters now."

Nick Fury looked at the two of them happily chatting and mentioning that annoying Flerken. He couldn't help but involuntarily twitch the corner of his mouth.

Knowing that the Flerken was still on Earth, he initially didn't want to come.

Better never see that thing again!

He glanced cautiously at Malorn, then stood up and clapped his hands.

"Alright, Oaks, shouldn't you introduce this new member to us?

First, we have a cat that can turn invisible, then a dog that can heal, and now a Stag... You always come up with things that we can't understand."

"Hmm? Oh, this is Malorn's avatar, our Benevolence Society's super AI. Hasn't Barton shown you his appearance?"

Oaks squinted slightly.

"You should Jarvis know, right? It's similar in nature. I made a physical body for Malorn some time ago, so now he can operate in this form."

"...How much did you spend on this special effect?"

Monica, who had already approached Malorn, examined his realistically deceptive fur and the faint glow enveloping him, and marveled:

"Is this really the effect that a machine body can achieve?"

"The value... well..."

Malorn's eyes lit up, but after thinking about it, he didn't tell her the specific cost of the Vibrarium consumed:

"Anyway, it's definitely not cheap, but I really like it."

"Director Maria invited me to give a brief introduction about the extraterrestrial civilizations I know."

Oaks pulled out a chair and sat at the table with Nick Fury and Maria Rambeau:

"But I thought that since you're establishing S.W.O.R.D., you should have an effective method of gathering information on your own. Getting information from me is basically no different from hearing children's stories."

"We do have one, but we can't activate that method at the moment."

Maria pondered for a moment and nodded slightly.

"But our current task is to sort and archive the archived files of government agencies, including NASA, regarding extraterrestrial civilizations, and establish new extraterrestrial observation devices.

In fact, Earth has been visited by aliens, but many people have overlooked the true value of those files classified as confidential. They should be brought out for effective research instead of gathering dust in the archives."

In other words, they aren't prepared to contact Captain Marvel, who has extensive knowledge of countless extraterrestrial civilizations.

Oaks understood this in his heart. Maria Rambeau, the director of S.W.O.R.D., had the same intention as Nick Fury. That's why she personally called him to detect the life fluctuations of this non-terrestrial being on their side.

The life fluctuations of the Skrulls are indeed very unique. They can even replicate the DNA and short-term memories of their targets. and this Nick Fury's stand-in——

The current leader of the Skrulls—General Talos—was undoubtedly the most powerful individual among their surviving population with this ability.

If he hadn't transformed into the appearance of Nick Fury after coming to Earth, it would have been difficult for the Gaia Mirror to accurately capture him.

But now that Oaks sensed it up close and relied on his profound knowledge of nature magic, he discovered the differences between Talos, hiding under multiple disguises, and the life aura of Earth's organisms.

From now on, the Skrulls would be distinct individuals in the Gaia Mirror's database of non-terrestrial life forms.

As soon as they stepped into the ecological sphere, they would be immediately identified—

In fact, Odin, who is wandering around on Earth now, also receives the same treatment, including his number one steed, Professor Randolph.

If Thor, Loki, Baldur, or others were to come to Earth, the Gaia Mirror would detect them immediately.

This trick doesn't work so well on the Eternals, though.

Oaks had already added the life and energy characteristics of Gilgamesh and Thena to the Gaia Mirror's recognition database, but they still couldn't be effectively identified unless they unleashed a certain level of cosmic energy.

However, considering their life essence—intelligent robots created by the Celestial—Oaks was somewhat relieved.

On the one hand, the Celestial's methods are too sophisticated. They can even create planets and even galaxies.

On the other hand, the life aura fluctuations of the Eternals are truly obscure.

Now, sitting in front of Oaks, Nick Fury, or rather, Talos, was not the only Skrull on Earth.

Even they themselves didn't know that their movements were under Oaks's surveillance.

"Well then, let's have a proper exchange of information about extraterrestrial intelligent life..."

Oaks smiled.

"First, let's start with the Nine Realms..."
