Power Of The School's Strongest (Victor X Victoria)

(About eighteen minutes earlier. Outside the forest. On the main battlefield.)

Vestiges and soldiers were being hacked apart, body parts of both sides and attacks were flying through the air.

Expressions of different types were seen on the soldiers faces, some sad, some fearful, some angry, and even some with madness almost on the level of the vestiges they were fighting

Bodies of different soldiers were seen being eaten while the ones close to them were trying to prevent that.

In short, this place was pure chaos.

But to the two of them, it looked like slow chaos.

The world appeared to be almost at a stand still and the sounds were heavily muted. Almost entirely silent.

In fact, there were only two things that appeared to even have any semblance of movement in this area.

The first were attacks that were faster than sound.

The other were these two students moving about.

A young man in full body armor was seen moving with arches of white lightning flying off his body, some even scorching the earth, while a young woman nearby him looked like she was made up of solid light.

And right now, they were engaged in a discussion.

[Hey Vic], a female voice said through the telepathic link they established to communicate in this slowed down world.

[Yeah, Vicky?], The young man replied to her, his tone of voice hoping for something but at the same time ready for disappointment.

[How about a little competition?], Those words elicited a sigh through the link that seemed to say 'I knew it' but to avoid more shit than he was already in, he decided to play along and asked;

[What are we competing on?]

[Who can give the most people potions in the least amount of time.], she relied in a serious tone.

This time he couldn't hold the frustration in his voice and said, [Oh come on! Are you being serious right now?], he asked with more than a little incredulity in his tone.

[One hundred percent.], and she replied in all seriousness, like she didn't just do something to embarrass him.

Just recently, when he and her were rescuing people, he saw a sight that made him realize how much slower than her he really was.

Jumping off several pieces of debris, she tied a rope around seven vestiges that were close in proximity to each other and sent them flying away from themselves.

This lead to the sudden acceleration and deceleration ripping them into pieces and sending their body parts everywhere, all while getting their cores and avoiding any dirt from touching her.

Victor was, of course, very impressed by that and inadvertently thought, 'Woah, she really is faster than me.'

The problem was that he didn't shield his mind enough, meaning that this thought got into the mind link, and she heard it.

Victor knew he messed up big time when she literally almost pounced on him the next second, forcing him to repeat what he said, several times.

Since that slip up she had challenged him to two competitions, winning both and not forgetting to shove the wins in his face, this one about to be the third.

[You do realize we are in the middle of a warzone, surrounded by creatures that want to kill us and people that are dying left and right with a high chance of us dying, right?], hoping to reason with her again, he countered.

[All the more reason we should do this.], she countered back.

[…I really don't get your logic.], He was really confused but resigned himself to this fate as he knew what she was going to do next.

[Okay ready, set go!], with that, the white silhouette took off in one direction, not waiting for a confirmation.

With another sigh that seemed to say 'i knew it', he turned in the opposite direction she went, aiming to not make this the third loss in a row for him

He had thought this before but he just couldn't help it at this point,'I messed up, big time'.

***

In the same slowed down perception of time, a heavily injured man missing fingers on both his hands was about to have his head bitten off

The culprit was a vestige that looked like a six-foot tall man with half its body being the head, shark-like teeth in its mouth and abnormally long backwards bent limbs.

Just when the mouth was about to start covering his head, an armored hand came from the side and punched the head to the side at a speed that would leave it broken for sure.

At the same time when the head was carrying the rest of its body away, he left a bottle in the hand of the person and went on his way, moving on to another person in that area that was in trouble.

At the same time, in another direction, a white silhouette used two daggers with a foot three inch long blades to cut off the limbs and head of a vestige that resembled a bipedal short necked giraffe with red and black stripes on its blue body, saving the person that was about to have half their head bitten off.

When the vestige was either two big to die in one blow or would take too long to finish off because of defense or it had a speed that could somewhat react to them, they would just take the person to a safer location.

But all the while, they never failed to give an injured person a healing potion and move them to a relatively safer area and also help those that were in a difficult situation.

Most of the combatants, vestiges and soldiers alike, could sense them moving but could hardly react due to their less than sufficient speed.

Their superior speed was the reason that Alexander sent them on this particular mission.

Alexander, while planning, knew that the supplies the army had was starting to dwindle due to the prolonged battle.

Of course the strategists noticed this and were sending for more to be produced or brought from other storages but they all knew that the next batch wouldn't arrive till a large number of the soldiers were killed.

So he took out of his personal supply and tasked the two with a very important task, to deliver these to any side of the battlefield that was lacking and to who desperately needed them, all while helping those that they could and reducing the death count.

Everyone knew that Victoria could be extremely playful despite her graceful appearance and Victor to be uncharacteristically serious despite looking like the delinquent next door.

So it came as a surprise to no one but Victoria when he picked him to direct this movement and call the shots.

And she made it a point to show her pettiness for that decision now that she had leverage over him.

Victor could do nothing except agree to her whims at this point, otherwise the chance the whole school would hear about what he said before the end of the day more than doubled.

In two minutes, which undoubtedly felt like an hour or more to them, they had met back together.

Although the two of them lacked high intensity burst damage, they made up for it in their stamina.

They had been running at this intense speed for more than five minutes yet they were only lightly tired!

While having a little accelerated breathing, Victoria asked Victor when they stopped to meet up,"So how many did you get?"

A little afraid to answer, he replied to her,"Exactly 2002 people. What about you?"

Hearing his reply her eyes widened and with a pout, she exclaimed,"really? I only got 2000."

Thankful for the helmet hiding both his cold sweat and relieved sigh, he replied,"So that means I win right?"

Her brows, although made of light, twitched visibly to the boy as she turned her head slightly to the side, which he took as the sign for when she lost but didn't want to admit it.

In fact he could be said to be fortunate, the direction he moved in happened to have a higher density of battles, which meant that he could make up for his lack of speed with more people per square meter.

Not that he would ever tell that to her though.

But at least it gave him the needed leverage to stop her from pulling another stunt like this, both speeding up the mission and preventing his farce from ending.

Victor had known he wasn't faster than her for a long while, but that earlier feat further cemented it in his heart.

But he didn't want her to know that.

If she knew earlier it would have stopped her drive to become even faster, something that he wouldn't want to see.

How was he so sure? While he might only be 50% sure, he didn't want to risk him being the reason the one he loved slumped.

Besides, he knew her enough for that future to be a very real possibility.

But with this situation, although shaky, he managed to maintain his ruse for a little bit longer, hopefully long enough for her to find another drive.

So he made and worked painstakingly to keep up the facade of him being faster, giving her the drive to push and surpass her limits, but it was clear he was nearing his faster than she was hers.

'Soon enough, and it would be over.', he thought, making sure to not make the same mistake of letting it flow to the link again.
