Chapter 1.7 Vol 1 completed

- What am I going to do without more points?

- I used the rest of my points yesterday.

After Chabashira-sensei left the classroom, the whole class was in an uproar.

Yukimura: More than the points, this is a problem with the class. Why am I placed in Class D!?

- Wait, does that mean we won't be able to go to the university we want to? Then, why did I come to this school in the first place? I wonder if Sae-chan-sensei hates me. None of the students can hide their confusion.

Hirata: I understand that everyone is panicking right now, but calm down.

Hirata took control of the class, trying to ease the sense of imminent crisis.

Yukimura: How can we stay calm in this situation? Aren't you frustrated that we are the class of leftovers?!!

Yuuichi: Yukimura-kun, I understand your anger, but instead of complaining, why don't we try to find a way out of this situation together?

Yukimura: Get out of this situation? I don't even agree with this class hierarchy in the first place!

Yuuichi: Don't speak as if it's not your fault too, Yukimura. As far as I know, you haven't made any progress on the system, so it's as much your fault as all of ours.

Yukimura: What!? You...!

Yukimura approached and grabbed Yuuichi by the collar.

Yuuichi: Do you really think that hitting me will solve anything? All you'll do is make our situation worse. In case you didn't notice, Yukimura, this classroom has cameras, just like almost everything else in this school.

Yukimura let go of my collar and sat back down, looking at me with hatred.

I returned to my seat and noted all the information that Chabashira-sensei brought.

Yuuichi: Yosuke, we'll have to take quick action regarding the midterm exams.

Hirata: I was thinking about that too. I think the best thing would be to form study groups, but now I need to calm the class.

I just nodded in agreement.

Hirata: Guys, once classes start, I ask everyone to pay proper attention. Especially you, Sudou-kun.

Hirata attracted the attention of the noisy classroom as he stood up at the podium.

Sudo: Tch, what's the matter?

Hirata: This month, we didn't get many points, but at least it's enough to live comfortably for 1 month. We can't keep going like this and graduate with so few points in Class D, right?

- Definitely not!

A girl shouted in response to Hirata's words.

Hirata: Of course not. Therefore, we have no choice but to try to earn some points next month. That's why everyone in the class has to work together to solve our problem. We must avoid being late and talking during class. Naturally, using cell phones during classes is also prohibited.

Sudo: I don't get it, even if we work hard during class, it's not like our points will increase.

Feeling dissatisfied, Sudou snorted and crossed his arms, expressing his frustration. In response to Sudou's feelings, Kushida spoke up.

Kushida: Doesn't the school say that not being late and not talking during class should be an obvious mindset?

Hirata: Yes, I also agree with Kushida-san, it's only natural.

Sudo: That's just an explanation for your convenience. Talk after figuring out how to increase our points.

Hirata: I don't think there's anything wrong with what Sudou-kun is saying. I'm sorry for making you uncomfortable-. Hirata bowed his head to the displeased Sudou-. However, Sudou-kun, it's a fact that if we don't cooperate, our points will never increase.

Sudo: Whatever you do, don't involve me. Got it?

Seeming uncomfortable staying in the classroom, Sudou left the room.

---------------------------------------

It was when school ended. Hirata was on the podium, using the blackboard to prepare for the discussion.

Yamauchi: Katagiri-kun~

From under the desk, Yamauchi peeked his face, still looking lifeless.

Yuuichi: (sigh) What's wrong?

Yamauchi: Buy this for 35,000 points~. I can't buy anything because I don't have points~.

Yamauchi left the game console he was playing with the other day.

Yuuichi: (sigh) I'm sorry, but no, try asking someone else.

A few minutes later, while preparing for the discussion with Hirata.

- Ayanokouji-kun from Class D. Chabashira-sensei is calling for you. Please come to the teachers' room.

Immediately, everyone gave Yuuichi heavy looks, but I can more or less understand the reason for his call.

In Chabashira-sensei's cold eyes, not much can be seen, but there is something that stands out from them, and that's ambition.

After about 20 minutes of Hirata and me explaining how we should behave, we heard:

- Katagiri-kun from Class D. Chabashira-sensei is calling for you. Please come to the teachers' room.

Yuuichi: Huh?!! I'm sorry, Yosuke, it seems they need me in the teachers' room.

Hirata: No problem, Yuuichi. It's probably something urgent.

I said goodbye to everyone calmly and went directly there. When I arrived, I knocked twice and Chabashira-sensei quickly opened the door.

Sae: Follow me to the counseling room, Katagiri-kun. I need to talk to you.

Yuuichi: Understood, sensei.

We walked in comfortable silence towards the room. She opened the door and gestured for me to sit down.

Sae: Well, Katagiri-kun, you probably wonder why I called you here, right?

Yuuichi: Well, I have a pretty good idea.

Sae: Well then, I'll get straight to the point. Katagiri Yuuichi, or should I say Shiba Yuuichi?? I have to say, when I saw that this school accepted a teenager who killed 3 people, I was shocked, so I asked for more information from the director, and what he gave me was even more surprising.

Yuuichi: (with a colder look) And what did the director give you?

Sae: I have to

say, destroying Tomodachi game at 14 is a feat more than surprising and even more so the way you did it.

Yuuichi: And even knowing that, you brought me here to tell me to my face? You have more guts than I thought.

Sae: You need to know that if the school determines that you are dangerous, they will expel you immediately.

Yuuichi: Calm down, sensei, I don't plan on doing anything that puts me in danger in this school.

Sae: That's not what I mean. If I ever determine that you are a nuisance to the class, I'll get rid of you.

Yuuichi:( getting closer to Chabashira's face) And what makes you think I would allow that?

Sae: B-but instead, I propose a deal. Help the class reach Class A, and I promise to protect you.

Yuuichi: Didn't you hear the saying "raise crows, and they'll pick out your eyes"?

---------------------------

The days of May passed quietly. Ike and the others started listening to the teachers in silence. Only Sudou continued to sleep during class, but no one tried to stop him. Since nobody found a reliable way to increase our points, Sudou's habits were not corrected. However, Sudou received the wrath of many of his classmates every day.

But my job is not to worry about that. I simply spend every day helping in Hirata's study group. I didn't even pay attention to the composition of the groups, but I understood that Horikita-san and Ayanokouji-kun were helping the 3 idiots or something like that.

Today is Thursday after school. The day before the exam. After Chabashira-sensei finished the class and left the room, Kushida stood in front of the podium.

Kushida: I'm sorry, but can you all listen to me before going home?

Sudou also stopped and listened.

Kushida: I hope everyone has been studying hard for tomorrow's test. I have something that can help in tonight's last study session. I'll hand it out now.

She handed out the questions and answer sheets to everyone in the front row.

Horikita: Questions... from the exam? Did you make them, Kushida-san?

Horikita was also surprised.

Kushida: Actually, these are problems from an old exam. I received them from a senpai in the third year last night.

Karuizawa: Problems from an old exam? Huh? Are these questions really valid?

Kushida: Yes. Two years ago, the midterm exam had almost the same questions as this set. So, if you practice, I think we'll do better.

Ike: Woah! Really? Kushida-chan, thanks!

Ike hugged his test sheet happily. All the other students couldn't contain their excitement either.

Yamauchi: What the hell, if we have these questions, doesn't that make all our studying useless?

Kushida: Sudou-kun, do your best while studying tonight.

Sudo: Yeah. Thanks.

Sudou also received the questions happily.

Ike: This is a secret from all the other classes! Let's do well and succeed!

Ike shouted loudly with determination, but I had to agree. There's no need to help the other classes.

Everyone went home in a very good mood.

--------------------------------------

Sae: There are no absences; it seems everyone is here.

In the morning, Chabashira-sensei entered the classroom with a smile.

Sae: This is the first obstacle to staying in school. Does anyone have any questions?

Hirata: We've been studying diligently for the past few weeks. I don't think anyone will fail in this class, you know?

Sae: You're very confident, Hirata.

All the students also had a confident look. Knocking the exams against the desk to sort them out, she passed them out.

Sae: The first period is social studies. I think you can call it the easiest test among all the subjects. If anyone fails here, honestly, all the other exams will be difficult. If no one fails in this midterm and the finals in July, you'll all have summer vacation.

Ike: Vacation?

Sae: Yes, it's true... You'll be on a dream vacation on an island surrounded by the blue sea.

Sae: W-What is this strange pressure.

Chabashira-sensei took a step back from the pressure she felt from the students (mainly the boys).

Ike: Guys... Let's do our best!

-Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssss!!!!!!!

All the boys shouted loudly (including Hirata and me).

Looking at the questions, I smiled slightly; they are the same or at least look the same. Even the dumbest should get at least 50 easy points. Even I, who is not very good academically, am still a genius, so memorizing a sheet of paper is not too difficult; I'll get at least 80 in everything.

----------------------------

Entering the classroom, Chabashira-sensei looked surprised around. Everyone was waiting in suspense for the results of the midterm exams.

Hirata: Sensei, I heard the results will be announced today, but when exactly?

Sae: No need to be so excited about it, Hirata. You probably passed.

Yuuichi: When will the results be announced?

Sae: Well, now is a good time. There isn't much time for certain procedures if we do it after classes.

With the words "certain procedures," some students had a visible reaction.

Hirata: What? What do you mean?

Sae: Don't be confused. I'll explain it now. After all, this school likes to explain all the details at the same time. She posted a paper with everyone's names and scores on the board.

Sae: Honestly, good job. I didn't think this class would do well. In math, Japanese, and social studies, there were more than 10 perfect scores. Looking at the row of 100s, the students were getting excited. However, a group of students wasn't smiling. The only failing grade is Sudou's score in English.

And then- Four of Sudou's grades were solid 60 points. His score in English was 39.

Sudo: Woo-hoo!!

Sudou stood up and shouted in relief. Ike and Yamauchi stood up at the same time and cheered.

Yuuichi: Shit!

Hirata: (with a sympathetic smile) Yuuichi, there's no need to get angry; your grades were quite good.

Yuuichi: It's not that !!! Sudo failed English!

Sudo: What are you talking about? The passing grade is 32, and I got 39, I passed!

Sae: Katagiri-kun is right.

Chabashira-sensei had a red pen in her hand.

Sudo: Wh-what the hell? What does this mean?

Sae: You failed, Sudou.

Sudo: What? That's a lie, right? I passed!

Of course, Sudou was the first to protest.

The classroom went from cheering to a furious uproar in a split second.

Sae: Sudou. You failed the English exam.

Sudo: Don't lie to me! The passing grade is 32! I passed!

Sae: When did anyone say the passing grade is 32?

Ike: No, no, Sensei said so! Right, guys!?

Ike shouted in support of Sudou.

Sae: Nothing you say will help. This is the undeniable truth. In this midterm exam, the passing grade was 40. In other words, you fell one point short. Almost, but not enough.

Sudo: F-forty!? I never heard of it! I can't agree with this!

Sae: Then, should I tell you how we decided on the passing grade?

Chabashira-sensei wrote a formula on the board.

She wrote: "79.6 / 2 = 39.8".

Sae: The last test, and this test too, each class has a set passing grade. And that grade was half the average.

In other words, anything lower than 39.8 is a fail.

Sae: Well, that shows how you failed. You got a lower score.

Sudo: Impossible... Does that mean I'm expelled?

Sae: Although it was a short time, you did well. After school, you'll be asked to fill out a dropout form, but you'll need a legal guardian. I'll contact them later on your behalf.

Seeing that everything was progressing so casually, all the students knew what was really happening.

Sae: The rest of you, good job passing. It's the first time there are only 2 failures in the midterm exam; work hard to do the same and pass the final exam. Now, let's move on to the next topic:

Hirata: S-Sensei. Is Sudou-kun really expelled? Isn't there any way to save him?

Hirata was the first to approach Sudou.

Even though Sudou hated him and verbally insulted him.

Sae: It's the truth. He got a failing grade, so he'll have to leave.

Yuuichi: Sensei, why aren't you answering Yosuke's question?

Sae: What do you mean, Katagiri-kun?

Yuuichi: Sae-chan-sensei, a question: in this school, are the rules treated equally?

Sae: You are right, but what's your point?

Yuuichi: You said that anything on the school grounds is for sale, right?

Sae: That's correct, but what does that have to do with it?

Yuuichi: You said that anything on the school grounds is for sale, right? Then...

Allow me to buy a point for Sudo's English grade!

Bonus chapter : Yuuichi attacks class C

(A few days before Kushida handed over the exams to class D, Yuuichi had already planned the same thing but with a different target.)

He knew that some of the students in class C were members of the basketball club, so he carefully observed their schedule. When he discovered that they had practice after classes, he memorized the exact times they entered and left and seized the opportunity.

Silently, Yuuichi sneaked into the school during a break, making sure that no one noticed him, with the questions and answers he obtained from a student in class 3D.

He printed them on small pieces of paper, and then, he infiltrated the club's changing room, knowing that it would be empty during practice. Quickly, he hid the papers inside the jacket of a specific student.

The next day, a few hours before the midterm exams were set to begin, Yuuichi left an anonymous message with the student council, warning them that Kyogo Komiya was hiding cheat sheets for the exam.

(It's worth mentioning that Yuuichi had already purchased another SIM card, and he also bought the device from Chabashira-sensei to unlock the cell phone.)

One question, does anyone remember what the consequences of an expulsion were?
