The Curse

Elene gritted her teeth. She had already asked two servants to check and count the previous amount. Something she had not done with other payments. And to her dismay, all of them were real gold coins. How could a commoner have fifty thousand gold coins and now one million? The sum of it could be the five-year budget of a baron or the one-year budget of her one palace, leaving for the business lands. 

How in the world did he have so much money? Her eyes filled with rage and resentment and she signaled a maid to come closer. When the maid was close enough, she leaned and whispered something in her ears.

The maid's eyes widened with a mortified look on her face but Elene just grinned and signaled her to leave this instant.
