Chapter Ten: Heat

I plopped down on my bed as I reappeared in my room, I let out a tired breath and fell back on my fluffy bed trying to enjoy it till I had to go to another part of the world to be an accomplice and witness to Rhea acquiring another soul, my phone buzzed and I picked up the long awaited phone call.

My fingers played with my sparkly pink phone case as I softly pressed my phone screen on my right ear "Hello."

"It's Tyson… I'm waiting at your driveway."

I jumped out of bed with a black leather jacket and purse and slid my feet into a pair of pink checked slip on sneakers "I'll be there in a sec." The line cut from his end and I sluggishly walked out of my room.

Rhea had some freelance gigs today and Kyle had gone with the rest of the basketball team and cheerleading squad to participate in a basketball tryout thingy, luckily Tyson wasn't an athlete, he believed more in videogames than sports.

I spotted Tyson leaning on the hood of my car with a cheeky smile and I raised a brow accompanied by a questioning look,

"You haven't given your best friend a ride since you got your car."

I sighed and fished out my car keys from my purse, I clicked on the open button on the small remote attached to the keys by a metal hoop and got into the driver's seat while Tyson found his way to the passenger's seat.

I inserted the key into its slot and turned it on "So… we're we going?" His demeanor suddenly turned worried and I became worried as well

"I … I didn't plan that far ahea-"

I raised my hand and slapped the back of his head with an unexpected amount of force "How would you invite me to hangout without planning where we are going to hang out?!"

"I'm sorry okay." I sighed and a ran a hand through my straightened hair

"That's strike two mister."

"What was strike one?"

"You getting blackmailed." He huffed and I did too

"So… where are we actually going?" he shrugged and I sighed

"You're really exhausting, you know that?" he gave me a blank stare, a habit he was too fond of doing "Let's go to the movies then?" he shook his head

"We've already been there." I groaned and turned off my car,

"This is gonna be a long day." Tyson seemed to be frozen, he had never been so quiet, everywhere felt calm, a very rare occasion. I held my lower lip between my teeth as I appeared at Rhea's house in the blink of an eye "Hey." I muttered and she brought her hand forward completely ignoring me.

I mentally face palmed, she had done this to me severally and I still greeted her, it felt like a bad habit or an involuntary reflex action to ease up the awkwardness I felt. She seemed indifferent, I should have expected it, should have accepted it, no touchy moment we felt was ever going to keep us in good terms or even friends.

I placed my hand on hers and thought back to the vision, we both appeared there and the place looked more chaotic than it had been during my vision. There was blood everywhere, furniture was broken and two women looked like they were in a heated fight which resulted in one being stabbed in the stomach by a broken bottle.

I was beyond intrigued as to know the reason for their fight but once again Rhea seemed indifferent as she walked over to them and continued time, she quickly collected the ball of light from the injured woman and paused time once more.

Part of my powers was to see visions of the past according to the guide but I hadn't gotten to learning it yet, I had some free time considering my suspension from cheerleading but I've been racking my brain over Rhea and the person who knew our secret.

I turned to Rhea, everything seemed less of a mystery but she still hated me. I sighed, this was just one of the things that was never going to change. I reappeared back in my car and felt a familiar bulge hit my hip as I settled into my car.

I gently pulled out a piece of paper and the familiar cursive handwriting made me sick, I crumpled it up with the intention of reading it later and pounced on Tyson as soon as time continued. His face turned bright red probably because of my actions, we stayed silent as our breaths fanned each other

"Why did you attack me?!"

I moved back and grabbed him by the collar "Don't play dumb, I know you know that I'm death's vision!"

"What the fudge?!" I backed off startled by his reaction "It's the heat isn't it, you're probably hallucinating." He placed the back of his palm on my head and I went along with it since his reaction clearly said he didn't know what I was talking about

"I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me," I forced a smile "Let's eat ice cream and play some video games." I suggested and it was his turn to smile

"That's the best thing I've heard all day." He said as he walked out of the car, I sighed and removed my car key from its slot. My head started to hurt again and I suddenly felt queasy, I closed my eyes and breathed calmly as I let myself get sucked into another vision.

The air reeked of smoke and I could feel the discomfort in my arms that were bounded together, the vision felt far realistic than the ones I usually had but for some reason it seemed as though there were glitches, there was no sign of a date or time maybe because I was already there.

I looked forward trying to ignore the act that my hands were tied up, my breath seized as I spotted Kyle with several bullet wounds, he was in pain, there seemed to be a death wish in his brown eyes and right across him was Rhea who looked at him with shock laced on her face.

I looked around for the murderer but the glitches wouldn't let me see anything, fog surrounded and I felt myself returning to reality, I didn't want to, not without understanding what was going on.

Tyson's voice broke me out of my reverie and I sluggishly left the car

"The heat is really doing a number on you." He remarked and I nodded half absentmindedly

"Yeah, the heat." I mumbled.
