Chapter 17: Report

Benji POV

Benji was riding on a high. He could barely speak to Olive during their drive back into the city – his mind was flooded with thoughts of Ginger.

Eventually, Olive got fed up with him and smacked him with her mask.

“You need to get it together before we get back.”

“But there’s nothing wrong with me,” he replied, trying to snag the mask away from her.

“Stop it.” Olive hit him with the mask again. “You’re in some kind of dreamland. We need to be ready.”

“I don’t need to be ready to talk about counting people and listening in on conversations,” Benji said as they pulled up in front of their parents’ brownstone.

He paid the driver before getting out, seeing that Olive had beaten him to the door. She went inside but had left it open for him. He entered the house moments later and found his family in the living room.

“Sit,” Denton commanded, gesturing to the loveseat where Olive already was.
