Benji needed to nip Hunter’s plan in the bud. He couldn’t let him build up an army for the purpose of fighting the Garnets. It would ruin all his plans to get the families on good terms so that he and Ginger could be together openly. 


Not being able to share how happy he was with his whole family saddened him. He found the woman he wanted to spend his life with. There had been so much excitement among them all when Hunter, Kelly, and Ash each found their person. It was a shame he didn’t get to have that just because Hunter wanted to be able to kill humans whenever he felt like it. 


Benji waited to talk to his parents until everyone went back to their own homes. He wanted the house empty to reveal to his parents what Slate had told him and Olive earlier in the night. 


“Benji, just because you showed up a little late doesn’t mean you have to stay later,” Myrtle told him while she cleaned up with bits of wrapping paper on the floor.
