Chapter 26: Making Choices

“I have driven all over looking for you,” Tobin breathed deep. “I haven’t slept! Why didn’t you tell me you were leaving? What happened?”

“Are you kidding? Do you not remember?” Aurelie snapped.

Tobin slowly shook his head, “I remember turning around and you weren’t there.”

“You drank so much you fell off the foyer table!” Aurelie shouted back.

“I–” Tobin began, then a look of embarrassment crossed his face. “I remember that.”

“Do you remember telling me we would leave if I felt uncomfortable? Do you remember telling me to wait, be quiet, while you accepted drink after drink?”

Tobin hung his head. “Let’s go for a drive.”

“No,” Aurelie stated flatly, tears welling in her eyes. “I think I need some time to think. I don’t want to be a part of that type of life, Tobin Moray.”

“Please, Aurelie,” Tobin begged. “Can we just go for a drive? Get a coffee? Let’s talk.”

“A coffee?” Aurelie raised her eyebrows.
