Sienna turned pale.
From what she had observed, Caius seemed amiable and someone who wouldn't do such a thing, but a part of her felt that what Lemiel said wasn't far from the truth. Although the man appeared to be gentle and mentally sound compared to his brothers, it didn't mean he couldn't be just as dangerous.
"Why would he do that?" she asked in a small voice.
First of all, she couldn't understand what had happened to her and what had brought her to the pond far south of the mansion in the middle of the night. Second, she wasn't sure what had happened underwater. Third, why would Caius prohibit anyone from going near the pond?
As if hearing her thoughts, Lemiel answered, "The pond was his wife's favorite spot. Father gave it to the couple as a wedding gift. Caius doesn't want anyone to go near it and no one knows his reason. Perhaps he's very sentimental about it and doesn't want anyone to sully his wife's memories."
