Renxian watched her from his side. Niara's expression was alarmed, tears escaping from the corners of her eyelids. It was as if her father's past, which she had hated, no longer applied to the present. She was thinking of various ways to make the man better.

"It's futile, my dear daughter," he turned toward his downcast child, earnestly attempting to console her. "This is my karmic consequence for what I've done to you."

The man with the thin, trembling hands held both of Niara's hands which were still attached to the staff with tenderness. That forced the blonde-haired woman to flinch, finding Liuwei smiling broadly with an outpouring of sincerity. A smile that brought her back to a past that was memorable for her.
