ANOTHER WORLD

Bring thrown to the ground was no pain for me. I was more worried about my life. Glancing at my father-in-law, I get up from the ground immediately looking at my hands.

" Father-in-law. I mean, General!" I say standing at attention in a bid to save my life.

It was obvious I had heard something I wasn't supposed to hear. Worst part, they had caught me. Seeing that my word had no effect on him, I fall to the ground to start begging for my life.

" Please forgive me. I didn't mean to eavesdrop. I was heading to my room and I-"

His sudden touch on my shoulder makes me shift back in fear. What was he going to do to me? Fredrick looks so happy and his face has a sick pyschopatic smile on it as if he is expecting me to end up dead.

" Why are you so scared? You're my son-in-law. You are family. Why should I do anything to you? You just came back from the army clinic. How is your ribs?" I hear him ask in a soft tone but it doesn't erase my worries.

Although he had never used his own hands to beat or punch me, he was well aware of all my sufferings in the camp. He knew everything and he just kept quiet about it. Looking down at my ribs, I know that I am not yet well. My body hurts like crazy and I feel very dizzy. Still, I force myself to smile as I look around.

" What will happen to me now?" I ask shaking as my father-in-law places his hand on me again.

" To show that I truly trust you. I will send you to get the weapons here to the camp. What do you say?" His voice echoes through my ears.

" You want me to go and bring the weapons here personally?" I ask in shock as I watch him head to where the map was hanging.

" Yes." He said nodding his head at me.

The day, my team and I get ready to head out before the rising of the sun. Checking our guns, I turn back glancing at them to see if they are ready. It was the first important mission that my father-in-law had given me. Although it was against my principles and morals, I decide to push back my conscience and do as I am told. Suddenly the door opens but that isn't what gains my attention. Seeing my men stand at attention is what does. Turning back, I can't help but let out a sigh as I see Fredrick standing in front of me.

" Why are you not saluting your superior?" Fredrick asks making me clench my hand.

No matter what personal feud I had with him, he was still my superior. I couldn't disregard the chain of command.

" Salute! Staff Sergeant Anthony Murphy!" I say loudly while I continue to clench my hand even tighter.

" Don't worry. While you are obeying the General's command, I'll make sure I keep your wife's bed warm. Do you understand?" I hear Fredrick ask making me glare at him.

Watching laugh as he leaves, my heart sinks even more and I blame myself for being weak. I know he was definitely going to keep his promise. Nevertheless, there was nothing I could do. Until I come back.

The mountain road was covered with thick snow. The weather had almost teached -60F yet we all had no plan on returning. This mission was one that could change our entire lives and we all knew it. Glancing back at my men, my eyes wonder across their bodies as I see that their noses have already turned red as they rubbed their hands together even though they were wearing a level seven military parka designed for the extreme cold.

" We are almost there!" I shout alerting them as we pass through a small road in the middle of two large mountains.

Just as the road we had passed, the mountains were also covered with thick snow making it hard for us to pass through.

" Do you think we can make it?" I ask our mountain infantry unit driver as our vision slowly becomes blocked by the view of the snow falling.

" Yes, sir!"

Suddenly all of us jerk forward as the infantry vehicle hits a rock in the middle of nowhere on the road. Coming to a halt, my eyes widen as I realize that we might be stuck in ice. While others remain in the vehicle, I come down to check the tires and see how bad we have gotten stuck in. Just then, my eyes spot something.

" Come down!" I scream on the top of my lungs as a missile comes for our vehicle.

While they try to get out, I feel myself pushed down as the blast from the vehicle becomes so huge passing over my head. My men were all lying down on the floor. Some of them were not even moving. As if they were dead. Groaning as I look around, the unbearable pain I feel in my legs tell me something is wrong.

" My legs!" I scream surprised as I see that half of both my legs are gone. They had been destroyed by the blast.

Suddenly, some unknown men surround me in seconds. I am unable to move neither can I defend myself.

"Don't blame us at all. Sergeant Anthony. You are the one that dug up your own grave." I hear the soldier say as his boot walks towards me. His long thin legs look just as skinny as mine and I know I can take him down. However, my own legs have been cut off.

" Who are you people? Why do you want to kill me?" I ask with my hands stretched out as I grab his leg.

Raising my head up, I realize his face is covered so I am unable to see his face. However, something else gives him away. The badge on his shoulder. Gasping in shock, I finally realize who sent him. Unfortunately, I get striked down immediately.

*******

" Where am I?" I ask myself as I try to hear where I am through the loud noise ringing in my ear.

The screams of loud voices bring me out of my sleep making me open my eyes. I was in some sort of cage. The walls were small and light could barely be seen inside. People could be seen through the cage which made my eyes widen. Where the hell was I?

"The next tournament is going to be the most exciting one we have seen in a while. The next soliders are very new so lemme explan the rules again. The rules are...."

" Do not get killed!" The crowd shouted gaining my attention.

What was happening? The gates open suddenly and everyone comes out of the cage looking just as surprised as I am. We all seem to be locked in some of sort of room while people above us scream loudly as they wave their hands at us.

Who are they? Where was I?

(Ring!)

While some of us stand in the midle confused about what to do, others start running towards the bags by the side to grab something. Spotting one of the men bring out an axe, my eyes widen and I suddenly realize what he's about to do.

" Noooooo!" I scream in shock trying to warn the other person but he doesn't listen to me.

Watching him strike down the man in front of him, my heart slowly comes to a halt as I watch the rest do the same thing. They were killing people. Running in the midst of the chaos, I try to get my own weapon. Instead my hand reached out for some sort of strange box. Bringing it out, I look at it and I can't seem to know where it was from.

" Down to 50!" A voice says through the speakers catching my attention.

Looking around I realize that a lot of people have been killed so suddenly that I didn't even realize it. There is only one thing to do for me.

Run!

Running as fast as I can, I try to get to the door I've been spotting since. Unfortunately, this task seems very hard as another person falls in front of me dead.

"Down to 20!"

Hearing the voice from the speaker, my speed increases. Unfortunately, what I don't realize is that someone is also running after me. After being struck from behind, I fall to the ground groaning in pain as I realize that I was once again about to die. Just where was I? I had no idea what had happened to my other fellow comrades. Were they here too? Were they also going to participate in this horrible tournament?

The screams and laughter of the people watching us from above when made even angrier. Once again, I was dying. Reaching for the strange box that had fallen from my hand, I suddenly watch it disappear right in front of me before I lose consciousnes.

[Host identified. Name: Anthony Murphy]

Hearing a voice in my head jerks me up from sleep. Looking around, I was suprised I was not yet dead. I clearly remember being struck by something before falling to the ground. Suddenly a strange writing appears in front of me making me gasp as I fall to the ground. Everyone around me is already sleeping.

" What's the place?" I ask myself as I look at the room where we were clearly locked up.

The strange writings start to freak me even more as I realize they look real. I can actually touch them.

" What's this? Did they-? They put a robot in my head?" I ask screaming at this point because of how freaked out I am.

This time, I wake someone up. Although he is awake, he doesn't pay any attention to me. Suddenly, I hear footsteps from outside the door. Someone was coming with a touch light. Feeling someone grab my hand near me, I fall on the bed as the door opens to reveal a man dressed in some foreign uniform I don't know. Have I been kidnapped by some enemy country?

After he leaves, the man besides me lets go of my hand allowing me to stand up. Although he wants to continue to pretend to sleep, I don't allow him. I had so many questions.

" Where are we? Were we kidnapped by these people? Do you also have a robot in your head?" I ask using my hand to touch my head.

"What rubbish are you talking about? Didn't you hear what the announcer said? The rules are very simple." The man in front of me says in a frown as he looks at me as if I am crazy. Rolling his eyes, he goes back to bed leaving me all alone.

The strange writings that had been in front of me still remain there. Plus they even look real. Too real. Reading the options once again, I try to choose which one is the best for me just for fun. Maybe it was some sort of secret way to getting out of here.

" Combat solider" I say as I raise my hand to press the option. I didn't know anything about spells or magic. Better to choose something that I was familiar with.

The options immediately clear up and I see another set of messages in front of me making me even more confused.

[Congratulations! You have finally selected your options. Be warned that you cannot change it after. Only if you die of course.]

"Die? This is certainly not good." I say out loud talking to myself.

Seeing the numbers count down slowly, my heart can't help but follow along. Beating along with the numbers. What exactly was going to happen to me next?
