Sleeping Lu-ann Shifts 1

Damon's POV

It has been twenty-four hours now that my mate lay on my bed, pale and motionless. You wouldn't even see her chest move up and down as she breathes, and if not for my werewolf ears, I would not hear her heart beating.

I had been seating by her side for most of the time, holding her hand, helping the pack doctor when she needed someone to help move my mate during examinations. Doing my best to let her know despite her unconscious state, that I am here for her.

She has now an IV connected to her arm as she needed to have nutrition into her, and we were not sure how long she will be asleep. The blood I have donated for her only served to strengthen her body organs which, as the pack doctor said, was ready to collapse.

I called Kaylee, my mate's friend, last night to ask her if this ever happened before, but she said no. The warriors who were left behind to guard our border and watch over my mate were also interviewed if anything unusual happened, but they were also adamant, everything was peaceful in their area that night.

So, with nothing else to go on, we just had to wait for my mate to wake up, hoping she just got tired because of the unexpected use of her power.

But it was worrying us, me especially, to see her like this; pale, unresponsive, with tubes connected to her body. I have been staying by her side since last night. The only time she didn't feel my touch was when I had my bathroom breaks and when I had my meal, brought to me by my parents or by my future officers.

The three pack doctors have talked about this unique incident and her unique power, but it seems, research could not help us as there were no records of this type of medical situation found in our library.

Now, it was nighttime again and I sit by her side on a chair. I gently rub her hand against mine, hoping she would feel it wherever she is and know that her mate is waiting for her.

I sit quietly, kissing her smooth, little hands enveloped in mine, listening to the reassuring sound of her faint heartbeat, watching her chest slowly move up and down and watching the IV drip slowly.

I stood up, intending to get a drink of water by the side table when I heard a soft growl. It wasn't loud at first and I paused to listen carefully, unsure of what I have heard. Not even believing that I would hear a growl as there was only the two of us and I know for sure it was not me.

Then it happened again. Louder this time. I moved closer to my mate, moving my head near her head to see if it was really her and was stunned when the growl got stronger. It was as if a large wolf was angry and making her anger known and I stood straight, still looking at her. Incredibly, the growl was coming from her. I mind link my parents and beta. Telling them to come quickly to my room.

My heart has started beating fast of fear and disbelief. Is it possible that she is shifting?

My parents were first to arrive, knocking and quickly opening my bedroom door. By then, the growls were continuing, getting louder and louder, but my mate was still laying on my bed, not moving at all.

The Queen Luna gasps when she first heard the growl, immediately mind linking the pack doctor to come.

I have to admit, I was nervous as hell, not knowing what to expect, but at least, I now have my parents and beta with me. We stood by her around the bed, me at the right side where I held her hand, my parents on the left and my beta at the foot of the bed.

"What is happening to her? Is she shifting?" My mother asks no one in particular. Knowing, we were all witnessing this for the first time. Shifting usually happens on the thirteenth or fourteenth birthday and the werewolf is always awake. This is the very first time that a sleeping werewolf could be shifting, and we could not believe it.

Cleo, the pack doctor comes in and we could only follow her movements as she walks to my mate and exclaim in shock. "She's shifting!!!" Thus, confirming what we have all feared.

Lu-ann's POV

I slowly open my eyes as I feel hands holding me, gripping me tightly and I struggle from their firm grip. Why were they all hurting me? What have they done that I hurt all over? Muscles I think I never knew I had are being stretched from my body and I feel joints being cut in parts.

I scream as I see my mate foremost in hurting me. I scream, the loudest scream in my whole life, originating from my stomach to my heart then out of my throat and mouth.

I thought, the Queen Luna loved me. I trusted her. I trusted every one of them who were doing their magic just to cut my joints in pieces and stretch my muscles from my bones.

Goddess!!! Please stop them. Or just kill me to stop this incredible physical pain.

Finally, I see one of them, the one in white lab gown come forward and touch my arm. Her touch at least was soothing, calming, letting me go back to sleep.

I woke up to a room full of bright sunlight and fresh air coming from the forest outside. I breathe deeply, enjoying taking in my favorite scent in the whole werewolf world, the scent of pine and ocean breeze. The scent of my attractive, beautiful mate, who is by the way slumped on a chair beside the bed I was lying in with his head pillowed on both his arm beside my hips.

I reach out and touch his hair slowly. Feeling happy that he's here with me. Wait! Why is he seated on a chair beside me? Then I see the hand touching his hair, there was an IV connected to it.

Why is an IV connected to me? I wonder. I let my mind wonder to whatever time zone it can reach.

Rogue attack. Check.

Going to the border with Damon. Check.

Staying at bush. Check.

Victory. Check.

A very tight, reassuring hug from Damon. Check.

Walk to the pack house. Check.

Blank. I sigh deeply as I don't remember what followed.

Then I look out the open glass door I have stepped out of yesterday and where I was when I smelled the rogues.

I don't really know what happened after Damon told me we won against the rogues, but I do know I have to get to the bathroom immediately.

I ever so, so slowly sit up, being careful not to disturb Damon's sleep.

Then I, very, very slowly again bring my foot to the side of the bed after removing the blanket. Good. He's still asleep. Bracing myself with my hands on the mattress, I slide my hips down for my legs to reach the floor, the white shirt I wore rising up to expose my panties. My foot hit the floor noiselessly, and I test their strength by standing with my hands still on the mattress.

I think they're strong enough to take a few steps to the bathroom. I look at the bathroom, calculating how many steps there are from the bed.

Then I slowly raise my hand and reach for the IV, standing on tiptoe as it seems to have been hang too much I higher than I thought it would be. Oh shoot!!! And I fall to the floor, quickly putting my hands forward to brace my fall.

"Lu-ann!" Oh good, he's awake. Maybe I should just have woken him up.

I feel him pick me up as I try to raise myself up by raising my arms.

"You should have woken me up." My beautiful, beautiful mate, even after just waking up, tells me worriedly.

"I didn't want to disturb your sleep."

"You have been out for more than three days now. You should be taking it easy." My yummy, yummy mate says, checking my skin connected to the IV.

"Were you just going to the bathroom?"

I nodded, feeling foolish. I definitely should have woken him up.

"Can you pull the stand with us to the bathroom?" I nodded again as I get hold of the stand. Why didn't I think of just pulling the stand earlier as I walked to the bathroom?

He carries me bridal style to the bathroom, and I again inhale my most favorite scent. I definitely, definitely should really have woken him up. I say to myself as I enjoy being held close to his body.

"You smell so yummy." I say to him, and he immediately stops walking, the wheels of the stand grounding to a halt as well.

He looks at me in disbelief. " Is that really you Lu-ann?"

"Something wrong?" I ask and he still continues looking at me in disbelief. Then he seems to shake his head and continues getting inside the bathroom.
