Chapter 39: May

Oh no. What corner have I lied myself into this time?

"She fell pregnant when she was still in her late teens. It was a one-night stand with some guy." He chuckled bitterly. "I was f*cking furious. I wanted to go beat the sh*it out of him. But she wouldn't let me; claiming that the guy was a good man."

I had the suspicion that Ken was maybe coming to the conclusion that I might be May's daughter. It was obviously not true, since I was born from my mother and father and the whole orphan story I told him was a lie. But I let him tell me his story.

"To this day, I still don't know who he was. I mean, I have my suspicions, but I will never know for sure," he said as he sat back down in his seat. "She'll never be able to tell me."

His face looked sorrowful. He still hadn't gotten to telling me what happened to May, but Ken's expression told me that something very bad must have happened to her.
