The Group’s True Color

What Carl had said to the team made Greg start to think to himself that even as a rich person he still had a lot of work to do.

He was still a target no matter where he turned. While poor, he never had to deal with the rich coming after him but now he had mobsters and gangsters on his tail.

He wondered if they knew what he looked like and if he could easily pass them by without being in the line of danger.

Damien had been his worst nightmare before and compared to the present it didn't seem so bad.

It was so simple, it was a very simple life to love. One he cherished at the present.

He would be bullied by Damien and Damien's family but at least they were not trying to kidnap him or kill him. At least that was how it had been for years before Damien decided to carry his stupid jokes a bit too far.

But now, after being called to be an heir for his uncle's riches, here he was contemplating on how to be safe due to the threats being bigger than he was.

He had heard stories of people disappearing if they ever went against rich people and it made him shiver. He did not want to be the victim in this case.

He had finally gotten rich and instead of being happy with what he had he was thinking of how to stay safe and away from danger. When would it end?

"Alright, I'm glad we had this meeting and I'm happy everyone finally knows their roles and the reason for this meeting. Are there any questions?"

Greg had so many questions to ask this man but he decided against it. He would meet up with him later to discuss specifics and ask for help.

Carl seemed to know a lot. He was very experienced with the world. That would mean that he had ways to survive if he was the heir. Greg was ready to tap from the wisdom of the old man.

"Hey," the butler whispered to Greg. "I'll be going now."

"Alright… wait, how do I get home?"

"A driver is outside the club with a car waiting to pick you up. Don't worry about that. If you don't see anyone, one would be provided for you."

"Alright. That sounds fair."

The man nodded before straightening up.

"Since there are no questions I'll assume that everyone is satisfied with what I've just said. With that being said, I'll be on my way."

The butler started for the door before turning around like he was about to give his closing statement.

"The master wants to see how much and how well you defend and protect your boss who is Greg."

With that being his closing statement, he walked out of the room leaving the audience in shock.

When he was gone, the room got very silent and the air could almost be heard. It suddenly got cold for the heir and he looked from face to face as they all stared at the table.

He got nervous and decided to talk to them. Maybe they could even become friends. They had been very friendly to him during the introduction phase and they looked like nice people. Finally he was in a place he could fit in.

"H-hello everyone," he smiled with a wave. "I-I-it is n-nice working w-with you all."

His voice shook while he spoke like he was intimidated. Yes he was intimidated by the people in the room. With all their qualifications and experience as well as knowledge they were better than him ten times over.

If they wanted to give people in the room the chance to battle for the position of being the heir he wouldn't even be on the list.

But even with this realization, he was ready to make friends with them. After all, they worked for him.

"Huh?" Kieran shot a nasty look at the heir. "What the fuck is this? Did I just hear you talk?"

"Kieran, stop it," Isabella sighed, taking out her phone to scroll through.

"No I will not do that," the man wavered on. "Even the way he looks, it's almost like he was brought out of the sewers. Is this guy really capable of leading us at all not to talk or the entire company. I don't get it.

"All these people who have rich families think they can come in here and order us around. Even Eve over there who is rich and famous made her way through her own hands. What are you famous for?

"Where are your qualifications? What can you do apart from look homeless and smell like dead fish and crabs? I can't believe I sat next to you expecting you to be the next big thing but you're not.

"I am really losing my patience right now and I am waiting for Mr Carl to walk in through that door and tell me that all of this is a joke."

That was Kieran with his bad temper as usual. He was one to not hold back his insults when he felt like it was needed. He eyed the heir with contempt flexing his muscles through his shirt to intimidate the young man even more.

Greg on the other hand was taken aback by the response he had gotten from the man. He had not been expecting that kind of response at all.

He had only tried being friendly but it had not turned out well. What had he done wrong? This was not how he had planned for any of this to go.

He had not seen this interaction coming but since it was here he knew he had to make a statement or they would ride over him like Carl had warned.

What to say at this point mattered or he would have a lot of people hanging up on him.

This sucks, he thought to himself.
