Ellen Young turned her head to look at Ruffy Smith, her eyes subdued, but her expression somewhat contemplative, "Your father treats you very well."
Ruffy Smith just laughed softly.
He knew this was true.
Ruffy Smith said, "I just wanted to tell you these things, nothing more, Ellen. I just wanted to ask you, didn't you ever miss your parents when you were little? I sometimes think of my mother, although I have no clear memory of her. But as I've grown up, this longing has only diminished, not dispersed."
Having said this, Ruffy Smith paused and then added, "Even though your parents..."
The silence at this moment seemed to last a century.
Ellen Young stopped what she was doing and poured her thoughts into the past.
Miss her parents?
It took her a long time before she responded with a sigh-like "Perhaps."
How could she not miss them?
But that was before she knew what kind of family the Wood Family was.
