007. Reunion at the Hospital_1

Lily Jones was in the emergency room for less than half an hour before she was taken to the operating room, a process that lasted several hours.

At this moment, Adam Jones stood outside the OR, worried about the safety of his sister, while at the same time, his mind lingered on the indifferent woman who felt so eerily unfamiliar to him.

Having not seen her in four years, she had matured a lot and become much more capable, exuding an air of control in every word and deed.

Completely different from the woman who had been married to him for three years, meek and incapable—it was as though a strange soul had taken over Elly Campbell's body and appeared before him.

Four years...

Their reunion happened under such tense circumstances.

Four years, not long but not short, had made him feel his wife was so far and so strange to him.

Remembering the divorce papers Elly Campbell had sent to the Jones Corporation that still lay quietly in the drawer of his desk, Adam Jones's heart suddenly became chaotic.

The terrible thing she did to him eight years ago seemed insignificant now.

Staring at the OR door for a long time, the red light finally went out. He watched as the door slowly opened, and Elly Campbell, dressed in green surgical scrubs, along with a few assistant doctors, came out.

Facing the man's anxious gaze, she removed her mask, revealing a slightly pale smile.

"Your wife is fine now; the baby was premature, so we need to place the little one in an incubator. Once your wife is moved to the ward, you can go and see her."

"Thank you, Doctor, thank you!"

The man, tears of joy filling his eyes, thanked Elly Campbell repeatedly before hurrying in the direction of the ward.

Elly Campbell watched the man thoughtfully. When she left Boston four years ago, Lily Jones hadn't been married, and now, in the blink of an eye, she was having a baby.

Seeing how the man reacted, he must really love Lily Jones.

A faint envy surfaced in Elly Campbell's eyes—in those days when she gave birth to William Campbell, other than the hospital's doctors and nurses, there was no one by her side.

Quickly masking the faint shadow in her eyes, she lowered her gaze and turned away.

She was all too aware of Lily Jones's condition.

A congenital heart disease, born into the Jones family's wealth, the Jones family had spent considerable financial and physical resources treating her illness from childhood.

Lucky she was born into such a family like the Joneses. Otherwise, considering Lily Jones's condition, not to mention pregnancy and childbirth, just living until now would have been a question if she were born into an ordinary family.

After completing a long night shift and the recent emergency surgery, which had drained much of her energy, she no longer had the strength to concern herself with anything else after talking to Lily Jones's husband.

Watching Elly Campbell leave without a word, not even glancing at him for half a second, a twinge of annoyance and a subtle sense of loss passed through Adam Jones's heart.

Remembering the transient sorrow in her eyes when she had looked at Christopher Moore before leaving, an unconscious ache spread through his heart, and his feet involuntarily followed Elly Campbell's steps.

Adam Jones paused slightly as he approached the break room, then raised his hand to push open the door and saw Elly Campbell supporting her forehead with one hand, her face showing exhaustion.

Hearing the noise at the door, Elly Campbell, without lifting her head, spoke with a slightly hoarse and weary voice, "Henry, I'm a bit tired. If there's a patient coming, call another attending to see them."
