Jiro POV
“What do you call this?”
Relaxing over dinner and lively conversation, Garnet smiled as Jiro prodded what looked like pale ribbons of dough on his plate, topped with a hearty beef stew. “Taste it. You won’t be sorry.”
“But what is it?” he asked. “What are these little ribbons of dough?”
Garnet explained, “They’re called ‘noodles.’ They’re a new invention.”
“Hmmm.”
“Don’t sniff at them before you try them. The humans make them and the elves import them on a regular basis. One of our envoys tasted them at a dinner in the elf kingdom. The elves are addicted to these noodles and eat them often, sometimes in a cream sauce. Sarina thought that beef stew would pair well with them. It’s her creation.”
He doubted that these pale noodles could possibly taste good, but he didn’t want to insult Sarina or Garnet, and besides, the stew smelled heavenly. He lifted a forkful of dangling noodles and beef stew to his mouth and tried a bite.
