The wrapped package waited for them in their bedroom. A note had been pinned to it, written in dwarven script and also the shifter language. Jiro could mostly read both. Garnet held the package.


Jiro felt relieved to focus on something other than fretting over an evening of having the spotlight in his face. “What’s that?”


“It’s a gift for us. I don’t know how the dwarves found out about the new Alpha so fast …”


He shrugged. “Their envoys and trade representatives frequently visit shifter lands.”


She ran her hands over the brown paper wrapping. “And our search for a new Alpha and my role as the likely Luna were hardly a secret these last few weeks. They must have started creating whatever it is as soon as they heard we wanted to select a new Alpha.”
