The room still held the scent of last night's passion, the spot where the man had slept still warm. Amelia Clarke shifted slightly and lay down in the spot where Owen Moreland had slept, inhaling his unique scent until she gradually fell asleep.

She got up at eight o'clock.

She went to the bathroom to wash their intimate garments, and after cleaning up, she straightened the messy bedding.

Her gaze caught sight of the contents of the trash can, and with reddening ears, she tied up the garbage bag and took it downstairs.

Dorothy Brown came out of the kitchen and, seeing her, smiled and said, "Miss Carter, you're up?"

Amelia Clarke smiled and nodded in response.

Dorothy Brown's eyes fell to the garbage bag in her hands; she hurried over to take it, saying, "Leave the trash for me to take care of."
