The butler had called for the Si Family's private physician, who administered a fever-reducing injection. Yet even after an hour, she still hadn't woken up.
"It's simply a fever from catching a chill; the fever is subsiding now. Once the IV finishes she should wake up," Doctor Li said, as he looked at the thermometer.
Si Mo furrowed his brow, giving a glance to the butler: "Prepare a room for Doctor Li."
"Yes!" The butler bowed in response.
After expressing his thanks, Doctor Li left the room. In a little while, the butler came in and seeing Si Mo still frowning by the bed, could not help but say, "Sir, why not let someone else stay and watch over Miss?"
"That won't be necessary; I have some business affairs to handle. You can watch her in the meantime. All of you may leave. "
"Yes!"
The room returned to its original tranquility. Si Mo just stood there, motionless, staring at the woman on the bed.
The bedridden woman was tall, nearly five and a half feet, but at this moment, she was tightly curled into a ball, like a homeless kitten.
Her fair skin had turned rosy because of the high fever, and her seaweed-like long hair lay on the white pillow, carrying a faint hint of damp and fragrance, innocent yet fascinating.
Si Mo swallowed hard, sat at the edge of the bed, and gently swept a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
Running into her yesterday had been expected, but her getting drugged was a huge surprise.
However, he liked this surprise.
"Mm~~ water." Xia Yiwan made a small groan.
Si Mo collected his thoughts, stood up, and fetched a cup of warm water.
He propped Xia Yiwan up, had her lean against him, then put the cup near her lips.
---
Xia Yiwan was roused by her alarm clock, and only when she opened her eyes did she realize that it was already noon.
"Miss, you're finally awake," Sister Gui exclaimed with relief when she saw Xia Yiwan's eyes open.
Hearing the unfamiliar address, Xia Yiwan's memories slowly returned, and her body involuntarily tensed up.
Relieved that Si Mo was nowhere in sight, she exhaled, "What happened to me?"
Her head was spinning, and her body felt dreadful.
"You caught a chill and had a fever. You had a fever reducer injected last night. The doctor said you should rest well."
Xia Yiwan rubbed her forehead.
She hadn't thought her body would be this weak -- a cold bath was all it took to knock her over.
"Let me help you freshen up," Sister Gui offered.
"No need, I can do it myself," said Xia Yiwan, sitting up.
She wasn't some delicate and weak lady who needed help with personal hygiene.
Looking around, the room was spacious with a monochrome design and consisted of only the large bed where she was seated and a couple of single sofas and a small table by the French windows.
A cool breeze swept in, and Xia Yiwan shivered. Looking down, she found herself wearing a brand-new silk nightgown.
"Sir had these brought over this morning. The toiletries are also new," Sister Gui informed her.
Xia Yiwan fell silent for a while.
"Miss, I'll go and see if the congee is ready," Sister Gui said before leaving the room.
"Okay," Xia Yiwan replied as she got out of the bed. With a bitter smile, she entered the bathroom.
Regardless, life had to go on, and she still had to eat.
After freshening up and changing her clothes, Xia Yiwan made her way downstairs.
Before she even reached the end of the stairs, she saw a man in a black shirt silently seated on the sofa, holding an iPad, seemingly engrossed in something.
Xia Yiwan's steps halted abruptly.
There were two maids standing downstairs, their expressions respectful. As soon as they saw her, they bent low in a synchronized bow.
"Good day, Miss!"
