COMPLIANCE

Myra stepped out of the ward and nearly collided with Ashley, who was balancing a tray of food.

"Oh, hey Myra," Ashley said, her voice tentative. "What's up?"

"I just came by to see if he needed any additional healing," Myra replied briskly. "But he's fine."

Ashley smiled awkwardly, unsure how to bridge the growing distance she felt between them. "That's good."

Myra nodded, her expression unreadable. "Later," she said curtly before walking off down the hallway.

Ashley lingered, watching her leave with a faint sense of longing. She missed how things used to be with Myra, but she couldn't quite pinpoint where it had gone wrong. With a soft sigh, she pushed open the door and stepped into the ward.
