Chapter 7 – Tapes

Akira's POV

Later, 4 o'clock is the typical time for the students of my school to go home after class. But for me, I will be going to a tape store to buy a cassette tape, again. This time, a cassette tape of a long-time horror game. I'm not into those things, but I want to at least try one for a while. So, once class is done, me, Hachi, and Riho went to our local tape store, which was located in the inner part of the village.

There Hachi was amazed, seeing all the tapes in different types and sizes being displayed on shelves for sale. "Wow, so many tapes in this small village..."

"Yup, this is where I buy my tapes," I responded back positively.

"This is the place," Riho added.

"So, do you know any tapes?" I asked Hachi.

 "Uh...not really," Hachi replied back.

Thinking about this, I eventually suggested, "I know, how about we try out a horror game?"

 "What?" Hachi looked at me.

 "Sure," Riho agreed with me.

And so, we all went to get some tapes.

I also included a VHS tape of some data videos of the past in my list.

But, the majority of these types of tapes are very dirt cheap.

We get that cassette tape of a horror game and the said VHS tape.

Hachi, meanwhile, get a small tape about a documentary.

Riho, however, doesn't want to buy any of it.

After that, we went to the cashier to pay for them. There the total price was only 1,000 yen, very cheap for me. After we pay for them, we left the shop and went back home. Riho, meanwhile, wants to come with us so she could check out the new tapes we bought.

Later, at home, in my bedroom, I put the tape into my gaming console, and the horror game appeared on the screen of my small flat-screen TV. It was an old horror game. But, before I could press start, I said to Hachi and Riho, "So, how was it?"

 "Pretty scary," Hachi commented.

"Not that scary for me," Riho added.

"Okay, press start!" I responded while pressing the button for start in my console.

The first chapter begun, which includes a backstory for the game.

Later, at the next chapter, we get jump scares every time a scary creature pops up in front of us.

We get scared, but not up to the point of getting a nightmare at all.

We finished the third chapter at 5:44 p.m., and Hachi decided to play his VHS tape on the tape player so he could watch the documentary. The documentary was dated back at 2019. We were amazed at the topic of the documentary. Luckily, it has Japanese subtitles so we could find out what it was.

After that, it's my turn to play my VHS tape about data videos, my favorite topic on videos because I really loved data and interpreting it in different ways. The first data video was a good one and it's more or less accurate. As we watch, the second video rolls in, and the music used in that video was pretty nice. We watched it until 6:33 p.m., where Riho decided to go home.

Over the next few days, my life with Hachi was getting more interesting and exciting. We played video games together, read books, and study together. And when me and family revealed this to my older brother Taka, who was in college in Tokyo, he was very delighted to hear that, and said that we did the right thing. He promised to come home once the college semester break started. At school, Hachi was getting more and more talkative to his classmates and other students from other grades. I was happy to see him like that, thanks to my influence.

"I hoped this will continue for a long time," I thought.

At the same time, I started to notice that Aiko was getting envious of him and me. I theorized that she thinks that Hachi would take her place as the most popular student at school. But, it was less likely. I hoped she would understand other people's feelings. Also, at the same time, I'm getting much better emotionally.
