Roof Top

After the dinner, Claire was too tired, so, she went to bed first, and passed out like dead.

Zayne missed his opportunity.

The next day, as soon as breakfast was over, Claire asked Zayne to look after the children, while she checked the situation at their home.

" I will come with you. " Zayne insisted.

Claire shook her head.

" I have not much confidence in my attack power, but I am confident in my escaping skills. Our house is located in a residential area. Even if there was a situation, we can not fight there. As such, it is best for me to go alone." she persuaded him.

" Alright. " Zayne answered reluctantly.

◇◆◇

When she entered her home, it was messy. It was the mess made when she fought the guy who came to their home, no more.

It seems no one else came to their home to check it out. There are piles of letters both in her mailbox, and Zayne's mailbox.

She retrieved the letters, at the same time, putting the house to rights. The letters are from all over the place. There is a witness summon letter, as well as the notice from the school, telling them they would be given a demerit if their absence lasts longer than a week. A similar notice was sent from the children's school.

She turned on the television.

' A massive fugitive outbreak occurs in a span of thirty three bases among hundred bases. The cause for the outbreak seems to be infighting among the gangs. Most of these fugitives are criminals with multiple felonies to their name, and considered seriously dangerous. Currently, the fugitives' target seems to be the children of the 'wild nest ' orphanage. The children of these orphanages had been kidnapped in thirty three bases, causing a lot of worry over the stability of the social services system among these bases. UBO has issued two notices to the hundred bases coalition.

The UBO accreditation for the 'S' city base, which remains the only city with an active port, will be abolished if hundred bases fail to solve this crisis effectively. Amidst these concerns, there are multiple people who came forward to accuse wild nest orphanage of being a cover for a human experimentation research station.

There are also accusations that wild nest orphanage is a human farm, where children are raised for the purpose of sacrificing them to a cult. Currently, investigations are undergoing. We will be updating as the situation progresses. "

Thirty three bases is not a small amount.

" Breaking news … Black Bull's spokesperson Jessica dies in a deadly car crash. " a banner ran underneath the current news.

' Viewers, please do not change channels. Next up, we will be broadcasting a special news report about the I' city port's kidnapping incident. How a single high school student's report about her classmate has finally led to the biggest human trafficking, corruption, power abuse scandal in the history of base 91. ' the anchor continued the news report.

So, both of these cases are going to be investigated.

Claire went through her actions, and the perpetrators actions to see where the information could have leaked about them.

In the end, there were two places.

First, the guy on the other end of the call from Morde.

Second, the broker who initially contacted them in base 89. Even if the broker does not know their faces, he should have known enough about the target. If he keeps an eye on the house, it would be easy to see something has gone wrong. She could only hope Caspian takes care of the mole there well.

Now, her focus here should only be the guy who was contacting Morde.

She cleaned up the house in no time at all. This is still the early morning, so she could go and send the kids to school.

As such, she returned to the island to tell the kids to pack up, and return.

" Sister, I think I am allergic to school. " Dolce tried, as she sat on the sofa with a sad face.

" Oh, you little joker ! I recently heard of a recovery therapy for school allergy. What is it again ? ah.. I'm skipping dessert for a month. Do you want to attend the recovery therapy?" Claire asked kindly.

" I think I am all cured, Sister. I am healthy ! Look … that's muscle. " Dolce said, flexing his little arms, and pointing at the jiggling fat.

Robin looked at him with pitying eyes.

That kind of bullshit does not work on Claire at all. It did not work, not even when she was twelve, and had a fever. She still carried Robin on her back all the way to the school, dropping him off at his school.

She is that religious about attending school.

It's already a miracle that she allowed them as much free time as she did.

Zayne sighed looking at Claire who was as busy as a bee.

" Is there anything I can do to help ? " he asked her.

" Get the kids to change into uniforms, and make sure that they have all their books. " Claire commanded, as she told Brie to check on Prudence.

There's a good reason that she was taking the kids to the school today.

Given they have hunter cards at the moment, she would be officially changing the guardians on the names of all the children today.

She has completely forgotten about it, given the exciting life she has lived these days.

Her parents - or her foster parents still held all the rights over Robin's guardianship. Even Zayne does not hold the complete custody of his nieces and nephews.

" I have the papers ready for both of us. We just need to register with the school first today. " he said as they walked out with the children in tow.

" Thank you. " Claire said gratefully.

She was genuinely grateful. Moreover, Zayne had been very thorough in his preparation for this guardianship change. She most definitely wouldn't have been this thorough.

' Was there a conspiracy in the white Dragon ? ' she wondered as she looked at the solid documentation, which in no uncertain terms made her the caretaker of the children in case of Zayne's demise.

It seems the experience had not just affected her, but also Zayne.

Soon, they were sitting in the elementary school, changing custody, followed by middle school.

By the time it's all done, it's lunch in the high school.

They both returned to the school to report their attendance.

Most of the final year is self study. Even so, you need to clock in at the school at some point for you to not be expelled.

While the case of the kidnapped high school student had spread, it seems that no one knows that she and Zayne were protagonists of this kidnapping case.

Claire settled down in front of her books, and started making a to do list.

Zayne looked sideways at the list.

There are only tasks to complete on the list, buy something for Brie, make something for the twins, create a project for Robin, a training plan for Dolce, dungeons she needs to visit, and the days she needs to do so… nothing about him, and the number of lines is about to cross in to hundred.

' I can not postpone this talk ' Zayne hyped himself up.

He was just about to open his mouth when a shadow fell on his side of the desk.

Zayne turned to see who it was.

It was Jessica Shaw.

" Hi, Zayne. I am Jessica. Congratulations on awakening. " She said, propping up a drink.

" Thank you. " Zayne responded curtly, and took the drink.

If it were any other time, he would have rejected the drink gently, taking a little bit more time. However, today, he just wants to have the talk with Claire, because he had this innate feeling the longer he pushes it off, the harder it is for him to get the words out of his mouth.

" Actually, it is like this, on this weekend, some of us are going to the city to enter dungeons and start our official journey as adventurers. Would you like to join our party ? " Jessica asked shyly.

" Sure, just text me. " Zayne answered roughly.

" Oh ! That's great. We really appreciate it. In that case, do you want to talk about the dungeon a bit with us ? How about we go to club room three ? This room is assigned to the seniors. " Jessica immediately found a way to pull Zayne away from Claire.

" No, I don't want to. Just text the details, you can just mail me the plan. " Zayne said, cutting off Jessica leaving no room for doubt.

" Alright. In that case, don't forget to meet us at the bus station by eight am of sunday. " Jessica told him.

With that she returned to her own seat, and the whispers picked up once again.

" Calire, can we talk for a bit ? On the rooftop ? " Zayne asked her, looking at her earnestly.

" We can talk here. Is it something you can't talk about in a classroom ? " Claire asked him.

" I prefer talking on the rooftop. It's about what we discussed on the cliff. " Zayne said, afraid that she would take the conversation too lightly.
