Hello

"She doesn't have to do anything special for me to love her. She is what is special".

Jason said to Grandpa and I couldn't help the smile that appeared on my face. No one has ever told me I was anything but ordinary but this man, he said I am special and he didn't even have to think about it.

It doesn't matter if I was doubting his feelings, right now, I am very certain about mine.

"You don't have to be so cheeky in front of an old man".

Grandpa said joking and the room remained jolly and light. Soon after Jason's arrival, Derrick soon —arrived and so did Jason's mom and dad.

When his parents arrived, I bowed respectfully and greeted but Jason's mom came towards me and embraced me in a tight hug.

"Oh my darling, you look like you have lost a lot of weight".

Jason's mom said as soon as she released me but I said nothing and just smiled. To be honest, I have no idea why she likes me.

"Oh ho!! Do you hear that? Your mother is accusing me of maltreating your girlfriend".

Grandpa said as soon as he heard what Mrs O'Brien had said. But Mrs O'Brien smiled and tried to defend herself.

"That's not what I meant father, I just mean she put a lot into taking care of you".

Grandpa didn't seem to agree with her explanation as he countered.

"Same difference. You are still saying she got slim because of me".

I was worried that this would cause a misunderstanding but everyone else in the room didn't look like they agreed with me as they all had smiles on their faces.

"My apologies Father, I guess my words came out wrong".

Mrs O'Brien said and this time, Grandpa did not say anything else.

"Where is Kay"?

Grandpa asked after a while.

"He couldn't make it, he has to go to school".

Jason answered.

"What, he couldn't skip school for a little while"?

Grandpa asked feeling a little bit disappointed.

"You already know if never let that happen".

Jason said and his grandfather gave him a look that said 'I don't like you anymore'.

It looked so childish and funny. I wanted to laugh out loud but I kept it to myself.

Grandpa was talking to his son and grandsons when Mrs O'Brien said she wanted to speak with me privately.

We went outside the hospital completely and went to a cafe just on the other side of the street.

We ordered two cups of iced Americano and when we were finally relaxed, she began speaking.

"Do you know Melissa on a more personal level"?

That was the first thing she asked and for some reason, my heart actually skipped a beat at the sound of her name. I was not scared of her or anything. It just felt like her name spelt trouble and I didn't want any of that right now. Especially not with Jason's mom.

With how much elegance and power this woman eluded, I was very sure that if she took Melissa's side, I'd be screwed for life.

"I don't know her that much but I have met her once".

I replied honestly.

"I know you've met her before, in Father's house. What I'm saying is, do you know what you are dealing with"?

She asked and this time around, I just raised my brow.

"She is the prime minister's daughter".

She said and I nodded my head.

"I have met her once, aside from grandpa's place. She came over to have a word with me".

She looked a bit surprised but didn't show it much.

"You don't have to worry. You have me by your side, I don't really like her anyways".

She said and because I was not expecting that, I couldn't help but smile.

"Thank you... mom".

I said with much hesitation but she looked at me and smiled.

"Don't worry my baby, in this... you are not alone".

She said. Those few words sounded so comforting that I couldn't help but smile. Though they were just words, they sounded so assuring that I felt I could trust them entirely.

I still wasn't sure if I could win against Melissa Blake but one thing is certain. This time around, the people around me looked like the kind of people I needed.

We chatted a little more and I realized that she loved to gist a lot. She showed me some of the high-class ladies she was acquainted with and her favorite brand which was Dior.

She also told me she'd introduce me to some ladies that would come in handy later in the future.

She asked me about myself and told me to tell her about my past but there wasn't much to say so that conversation didn't last long.

After a while of talking, we finally stood up and walked out of the cafe.

"You know, I love places like this where you can silently take your coffee and leave".

She said. I already knew she liked her privacy but I was getting this feeling that she probably liked my company. Probably because I was her son's girlfriend.

"You know, I don't usually like talking much... but with you, I just can't help my mouth. I think we are going to be really good friends".

She said. It sounded quite wrong to hear her call me a friend since she was way older than me and she is the mother of the man I am supposedly dating.

After her statement, he entwined her hands with mine and we kept walking. The feeling was strange but nice. I couldn't explain it much.

Mrs O'Brien had always wanted something like this. Since she didn't have a daughter, she had always hoped that one of her sons would pick a girl that she would be able to call her own. And right from the moment she met Nadia, she just knew that she was that girl.

We were already by the door of the hospital when we saw Melissa coming out with a smile on her face. We came face to face with each other.

She looked at me for a while but said nothing. She then turned to Mrs O'Brien with a smile and said.

"Hello, mother".
