"It's Nadia, or no one else".
Jason said and that was when his father finally looked towards the door.
I was grateful that Jason took my side but now that everyone was looking at me, I wish he didn't do anything at all. I wish he just let me remain invisible.
I gave a pretty fake smile and excused myself.
When I was finally in the elevator, I was finally able to breathe. I knew Jason tried to follow me out but I was glad he didn't catch up.
I was not mad at him or anything, I just felt like I needed to be alone right now. I was soon on the rooftop and looking around, it looked pretty beautiful.
"Waa!! The hospital rooftop is definitely a beautiful place to be in".
I said as I took in the fresh air.
"It could be a beautiful sight to view as you heal or a beautiful sight to take your life".
Someone said and I turned to see who it was. It was a young lady in a doctor's coat.
Looking at her face, I could tell that she had been crying but I didn't think it was in my place to ask why.
"Ehm... are you okay"?
I asked but she just gave a sad smile and said.
"Do you know the hardest thing in life"?
She asked and finally looked at me but I said nothing.
"It's knowing that it can never get better".
I did not understand how a beautiful doctor would have such worries. I always felt they were well-to-do people and the only thing they worried about was their patients.
I was about to say something when I realized she wasn't by my side anymore. Looking around, I finally saw her standing by the edge of the rooftop.
With a smile, she closed her eyes and began to fall.
"No!!!"
I said and ran to grab her. I was lucky as I had caught her but I was also about to fall. One hand of mine was holding onto her while the other hand was holding onto the rooftop rails.
By this time, a lot of people had gathered on the ground floor.
"What are you doing? Let me go".
She said with tears pouring effortlessly from her eyes.
My hand was hurting like hell but I was not going to let her go.
Jason and his dad had finalized his grandfather's discharge and were finally on their way home when they heard the noise from outside.
They got outside and decided to see what was causing all the commotion. Only to look up and see the woman he loved handing by the rooftop.
"Oh my goodness!!"
Jason's mom yelled as soon as she saw Nadia. Jason wasted no time as he ran back inside.
"Just a little more, hang in there just a little more".
He said to himself as he kept running.
"We should really help each other here. Can't you try to survive"?
Nadia asked the woman as her hand kept getting weaker and weaker.
"You don't understand. I'd rather die".
I was getting tired and she was not yielding. Thinking this is it, only one person came to my mind. Jason
His smiling face consumed every part of my mind and then, I began seeing some other people. Mrs O'Brien, Derrick, Grandpa, Kay, Anita, and Kanada.
"No, you are wrong. It can always get better".
I said and she finally looked at me. I smiled at her.
"Even if it doesn't, we can try to make it better. And we can only do that... if we are still alive".
She burst into tears and I could tell that whatever dragged her to this extent was not something light.
"Help me... doctor".
I said and she looked at me again. Luckily for us, her leg could stay on the rail of the next floor so she put her leg there and my hand felt a bit lighter.
The doctor had put her leg there but then, she slipped and pulled Nadia again. This time around, Nadia was not expecting it so the hand that was supporting them both also slipped off.
Just as they were both about to fall from the rooftop, Jason caught Nadia.
I thought I was going to die. I thought that was the end but seeing his face again gave me hope. If anyone could really be a knight in shining armor, it would be him.
I looked at him and smiled.
Jason was able to pull them both back to the rooftop and they were finally safe.
Without thinking about it, Nadia embraced Jason in a tight hug.
"I thought I'd never see you again".
I said as I hugged him even more. By now, more medical personnel had arrived and they took both me and the doctor to get examined.
We were both placed in the same ward but demarcated with a curtain. When it was just me and her, I went to her bed.
"Hi".
I said and the woman lying down looked at me with a bitter smile.
"Hi".
She replied as she sat up.
"I am so sorry I put you through all this".
She said but I smiled and shook my head.
"We all have times when we are at our lowest".
I said and she began to cry again.
"What's wrong? What happened to you"?
I asked this time around.
"It was all my fault, it is all my fault".
She said as she cried.
"What is"?
I asked but she didn't answer immediately.
"My baby..."
As soon as I heard her, I looked at her stomach, thinking she was probably pregnant or something.
I was about to speak when Jason walked in.
He walked towards me and said it was time to leave. I already had a cast on my arm as the doctors said I weakened my joint and needed it to heal for about two weeks. I never knew I was this weak.
"Let me talk to her for a little while".
I said and after looking at the doctor who could not stop crying, he nodded and left.
After a while, I asked again.
"What's wrong"?
"They did that to her because of me".
