Griffin's POV
Jack died in my arms later that day. It didn't matter what I said, it didn't matter what I did, Jack couldn't live without his mate. I notified his pack, and the last remaining members of his immediate family. He and his wife had no children; they hadn't lived long enough. But he had a brother and sister, and I didn't want them to hear it from anyone else but me. It was one of the hardest things I'd ever had to do.
His last words to me were a warning. Jack told me not to allow myself to care so deeply for anyone, or anything that I couldn't live without it were it to be taken from me. It was a lesson I had learned before, but had allowed myself to forget. I had allowed myself to believe that Samuel's death was unusual, but clearly I was mistaken.
