Chapter 1: Enough is Enough!

Vanessa's pov.

I woke up with a made up mind as I got out of bed in a hurry.

Today was the best day of my life, I was finally going to quit this boring, taxing job.

I was an underpaid accountant and I have been working 5 jobs for one salary.

I washed my face doing my usual face care routine and didn't like my reflection.

My eyes were bloodshot and I had eye bags.

People who worked my hours which were 4am to 10pm were all billionaires.

I took my shampoo and went in the shawor deciding that I won't let my boss kill me,

With the unpaid over time.

No vacations or sick leaves ,Monday to Sunday with only Christmas and New Year off.

What did I do to deserve that punishment?

I rinsed my body and hopped out the shawor as I headed to the towels that were in the shelve, next to the mirror.

I dried off and got dressed in a Grey pencil skirt that had a slit on the side,

Along with the white blouse and white blazer.

Slide my silver heels on and cursed when I remembered I forgot to apply lotion.

No worries I'll apply it where the skin was exposed.

I printed out my resignation letter and put it in a red envelope with a seal.

A sinister smile made it way to my face as I put my resignation letter in my bag.

I cursed remembering I had forgotten to apply make up to hide that I'm sleep deprived.

I started this job when I was 21. It's been 5 years with not even a raise or promotion.

But no more. My pride will be hurt because I'll have to move back to my dad's place,

While I wait for the next interview.

I'll miss this place. I had two days to move out before the next tenant arrived.

My land lord had given me a month to do it but with my work load, I didn't have energy to pack.

I grabbed my car keys, my bags and left the house.

Being outside at 3am didn't scare me like it did when I started this job.

But this was a safe neighborhood, no wonder the rent is so high.

The ground floor had security at least 6 armed men protecting the building,

Who came straight from the military.

Atleast that was what I was told and I guess it's true because here I stood,

Unharmed at 3am.

I entered my car switching the heater to warm up myself.

Before driving out off the parking, I stopped to put my seat belt on.

I need a banger of a song that curses out in rage to match my mood today.

This was looking to be the best day of my life.

I was at work in 30mins and rode the elevator to my work station.

There were people busy working when I walk in.

I went straight to my boss's office and my jaw clenched looking at his name on the door.

Mr. Cole.

It read and I opened the door wanting to claw the gold printed name,

With my freshly done nails.

I didn't need to knock.

My days of trying to impress that guy were over.

"Miss Dove? What a surprise?

I hope everything is fine."

Said Mr. Cole in a voice that I once thought it was kind when I first started working here.

Now it triggered me so much and made me want to slap his face.

"Not at all Mr. Cole, I came to give you this before leaving."

I said as I handed him the red envelope that looked like I borrowed it from the secretary of hell.

"What's this? Vee....what is this?"

He asked in disbelief but wanted he make sure his eyes were not deceiving him.

"Won't you open it Sir? I made the effort to type and print it out for you.

Since you never responded to any of the ones I emailed to you."

I said coldly looking at him dead in the eyes.

His eyes blinked and he looked away guiltily before opening the envelope.

(The Resignation Letter Read)

Dear Mr. Cole

Thank you for the five years experience but I am resigning.

Yours faithfully Vanessa Dove.

(END of the letter)

Mr. Cole blinked a few times before turning the page over,

He even took the envelope emptying it upside down to see if nothing came out.

"That's it? No reason as to why you are quitting the job?"

He asked in a high pitched voice and laughter was heard from the girl next to him.

I didn't bother looking at her because I didn't come to be friendly today.

"The reasons are in the 50 emails that I sent you."

I said coldly not showing any remose.

"Uhm how about you take today off and sleep on it mmh?

Maybe it's just fatigue or stress."

Said Mr. Cole man before smiling and taking my hands in his.

Thank Gosh I'm a lesbian and didn't fall for his flirtatious smile and gesture.

I pulled my hand away like I was escaping a hot stove.

"Listen here Eric fucken Cole! You don't want to be on my bad side trust me.

I tried to be professional but I see you take me for a fool."

I said harshly emphasizing my disgust at his behavior.

I rose from the chair, maintaing the fierce glare that promised war if he didn't take me seriously.

"Vee baby...you being unreasonable love.

Who will replace you?

Don't do this? How about a raise?"

Said Mr. Cole as he tried to charm his way out of this by approaching me.

"Back! Excuse me? Can I have my personal space Sir?

Can you take a step back?"

I said hands stretched out to avoid his touch.

He looked confused and surprised than he smiled before going back to his seat.

"Sorry about that, so how about that raise Vee....baby...you are my rising star.

I was just bragging about you to Layla Mayors over here."

He said foolishly as if he thought there was a choice.

I didn't bother to look at that Leeann or what ever he said her name was.

"You won't see me tomorrow or the day after the that.

I'll see you around Sir, I need to go pack for my move."

I said and waited for the wires to connect in his stupid ass head.

"Oh....I don't know what to say Vee,

You know that I need you.

Alright, but if you change your mind give me a call okay?"

He finally said at last before rising up again to go make a call.

Phew! I'll sit down and wait for him to come back.

"Miss Dove? Is it? Won't you regret this decision?

Jobs are scarce and at least here you have a boss that takes care of you."

Said what's her face deciding to butt into my business.

Who the fuck does she think she is?

Do I look like I'm in a mood for small talk?

I rolled my eyes before clicking my tongue in annoyance and ignored her.

Does she think opening her legs to our boss meant that I had to answer to her?

The nerve of this bish was impressive. I for one didn't have her energy or her time.

Try next door bish! You got no friends here so don't try to switch lanes.

"Hello? Mistress? Madam? am I talking to the walls?

I AM TALKING TO YOU."

She shouted loudly glaring at me and I looked at her matching her glare.

"LeAnn or what ever your name is, let's not bother each other okay?

If you feel differently and want a fight I can give you my address.

I don't want to talk to you if that's not clear enough."

I said looking at her with so much bitterness that she faltered and looked away.

"How did you manage to keep your job with that nasty attitude huh?

Let me guess you are sleeping with your boss?

That what makes you feel invincible right?"

She asked smirking like she just hit me with a lightning bolt.

I smiled gently biting back at the fact that she believes that we all slept our way to the top like her.

"Are you talking about yourself? Flushed cheeks, puffy eyes, mascara running.

How did he taste like? Is he big?

Did he make you choke?

Girl go touch up your make up before talking to me."

I said and she looked crushed by my words.

I smiled in victory as she looked away from me, emitting a new coldness.

Finally some peace and quiet!

Mr. Cole returned noticing the imaginary ice that had formed on his office walls,

Chilling the office atmosphere.

"Thanks for your patience Vee, here is your salary.

My offer for a raise still stands.

I added a bonus to your salary as a thank you for you diligence all these years.

I'll give you a call, I'm sure this is exhaustion talking.

Once you are rested I know you'll want your job back."

He said as he looked at me with sadness.

I thanked him and left to celebrate the best day of my life.
