Shane surveyed his surroundings with a scowl on his face. He never asked for such decorations so why bother? As he sat on the table, the beautiful flower at its center in a vase seemed to be taunting him and he glared at the decoration.
Meanwhile, a heated confrontation was about to ensue between the two ladies in the room.
Quickly, Laleen whipped her head to the direction of the voice filled with displeasure
Her eyes widened in shock as her lips parted. It was a woman with brown hair like hers. Her eyes were a golden brown and narrowed disapprovingly at her.
Her casual dress was enough to let one know she was from a wealthy family and didn't frequent modest shops like these.
Laleen immediately bowed in apology. She couldn't believe herself. She didn't notice her at all.
"I am absolutely sorry" She pleaded, genuinely apologetic. For someone who was once a princess, she sure was bowing a lot lately.
The woman sneered in response. Her voice turned increasingly sour as she taunted, "Oh why would you? You were too busy gaping like an idiot to notice me."
Laleen still had her head bowed as the woman spoke. When she called her an idiot, her hands balled into fists as she felt a wave of humiliation wash over her.
She suddenly disliked the woman who was dressed in green. Her eyes slowly raised to stare at the woman who still looked very much displeased.
As Laleen internally thought that she made the color green look ugly, the woman on the other hand bit her lip to hide her frustration. She averted her gaze for a moment to where Shane sat playing with his phone lazily like their own presence didn't matter and back to the stupid waitress.
She looked around her. Where in the Lord's name was this place? Though the place was decorated, it still had old walls and low ceilings. The woman in green scoffed as she shook her head in disbelief. When she got the call from her father that she'd be going on a date with Shane Degavon, she was beyond elated.
Why wouldn't she be? The man was well know for not just his excellence in the business field but his undeniable handsomeness too.
She had spent the last two days preparing and even fantasizing about how the day would go. A fancy restaurant with him and her. She'd immediately charm him with her pretty looks and innocent personality.
That was what she thought but…
Not just had he brought her to a stinky place like this that was obviously meant for the commoners, he…he never looked her way once!
Like she was air, from their first point in meeting till he brought her here, he paid her no more attention than one would pay the atmosphere. But this dumb waitress…he had stopped walking to stare at her. For five whole seconds!
You're damn right, she counted!
Her blood boiled as she stared at Laleen. She, Veronica Flores was being ignored for a commoner? No way was she going to take this standing.
A hiss escaped her lips as she walked past Laleen with a huff, not forgetting to bump her shoulder causing her to lose her balance and stumble.
Before any of that, she'd have to charm this man. Make him hers!
She smiled sweetly as she took her seat in front of him. From where Laleen stood, they both looked like the perfect couple.
Her eyelids dropped downwards but this time in sadness. She grabbed the menu from the counter and slowly approached them. But to her greatest surprise…
A sudden beeping sound burst through the small bubble of silence that had enveloped the shop. Laleen paused her approach as she stared at the source of the beeping sound. It was the phone on Shane's hand.
For the first time, she saw a smile creep up on his face and her eyes widened slightly but she immediately shook her thoughts away. The man was someone else's. Or so she thought.
She was about to continue her approach towards them as he had turned off the sound but he suddenly stood up.
Veronica stood up as well as her brows furrowed in panic. What was this man doing? She didn't forget her smile as she questioned softly, "Mr Degavon, what are you…" Her voice was much softer and laced with an overload of sweetness compared to when she was scolding Laleen.
She couldn't finish her sentence as Shane brought his phone closer so she could take a good look.
"Our date was supposed to run for an hour and the time's up now. Now if you'd excuse me". He turned and made to leave.
Veronica called to him desperately as her hands grabbed unto his coat. Her brown eyes held a pleading glint as her voice quivered, "You can't possibly be doing this. We haven't even done anything yet. I mean we just got here".
Hope shimmered in her eyes as she watched him wait patiently for her to finish. That means he'd reconsider right? Wrong.
He stared at her, this time his face masked in annoyance. He cocked a brow as if challenging her to repeat her words.
"And so?"
A shiver ran down her spine at his words. She slowly retracted her hand that was holding his coat as if it was burning coal.
She felt so humiliated but unfortunately for her, Shane wasn't done.
"You spent the rest of your time belittling a waitress instead whereas I waited patiently for you in my seat. Can you see how you're the one who did me wrong" His tone sounded wronged but Laleen could catch the subtle sense of mockery which he didn't bother to hide.
But alas, Miss Flores had turned both deaf and blind.
Her voice rose with hope once again as she suggested, "But we can still sit and talk for a while. Thirty minutes is enough "
Watching him scoff as a response she quickly added, "Maybe even five. Five minutes is fine. Awesome infact! "
A small smile crept up Shane's lips once more. But it was different from the one of earlier. His eyes gleamed with wickedness, "I'm absolutely sorry but the amount of time I spend with dumb ugly women are limited "
A laughter burst from Laleen's lips at his words. She'd been holding it for so long she couldn't anymore.
