Something had happened.
More than a hundred students gathered at the beach. Murmurs and discussions full of panic could be heard. Why would there not be?
In front of their eyes was an eerie scene.
The Supply Camp was empty.
The staff was gone.
The teachers were gone.
Only the remains of a destroyed helicopter floated ominously in the sea. Chaos was on the verge of ensuing and the only thing still keeping all the students mentally sane was the luxury cruise floating quietly in the distance.
It provided them a semblance of peace.
Perhaps this… perhaps this was the real test and everything earlier was just a deception. The hundred or so students couldn't help but think so.
No!
They had to think so!
Because there was another possibility…
Horikita felt a chill go down her spine. She stood silently among her classmates, she glanced at their panicked and bewildered faces and felt time slow down.
It can't be.
She mentally comforted herself and looked around more intensely as if searching for someone specific. Yet the sea of students only made her frustrated.
"Where are you…?" She muttered.
The one who'd dodged her questions. The one who'd smirked when she'd accused him of cheating on last week's exam.
If this was a test, he'd know. He always knew. He had to know!
Suddenly there was a commotion behind her. She saw the eyes of those from Class D lit up. The eyes of the hundreds of students seemed to focus on something specific.
Horikita turned her head around only to see a glimpse of a human from the forest behind.
The silhouette slowly became clearer and Horikita couldn't help but smile, letting out a sigh of relief.
Yet her relief curdled as she gazed into his eyes.
Her heart jumped.
Why did he look anxious?
She looked around and it seemed like no one besides her noticed.
"Yamamoto-kun!" Hasabe and the rest jumped forward initially in joy.
But the joy slowly evaporated, what could Tatsuya do in their current situation?
"Something weird is happening!" Hasabe began to speak and most of the students began to listen intently, perhaps trying to find solace in their current situation.
"The Supply Camp is empty! The staff and teachers have disappeared and the helicopter is destroyed. I don't understand what's going on, is the school trying to scare us or something?"
"Do you know anything about this Yamamoto-kun?" Kushida stepped forward, anxiousness written in her eyes.
She let out a strained smile as if trying to make sense of the situation.
Everyone waited for Tatsuya to answer. His face had been entirely calm from the beginning as if he knew something.
His mysterious composure gave them some confidence.
Tatsuya's gaze swept the crowd. Ichinose Honami stood at the front of her class, her fists clenched, "Please," she whispered, loud enough to carry. "If this is part of the test, tell us."
"It's not a test." Tatsuya's voice cut through the murmurs.
Silence.
Horikita's stomach dropped. Around her, students exchanged glances; confusion, denial, a flicker of rage.
"Indeed… it looks like they've caught wind of me."
Hasabe was stunned.
"Wind of you?"
What the fuck was he talking about? Everyone couldn't help but stare at him weirdly. His cryptic words sounded like nonsense if anything.
"Wind of you!? What do you mean?" Airi couldn't help but tremble and speak out loud, she held the hem of his shirt with a terrified look.
"There's no time to explain…" He shook his head with a grave look.
Rnngggg!
The sound of a loud engine roared to life and caught everyone's attention. The cruise began to move forward, till the point it reached the shore.
"It's a rescue!" someone shouted.
"Thank god—"
"It really was a scare."
"Goddamnit I thought we were abandoned or something."
"But what about the destroyed helicopter?"
No one answered subconsciously ignoring that question and looking at the cruise with expectations but the eerie atmosphere only began to foster even more as the students felt a shiver go down their spine.
The ship's gangplank lowered. Thirty figures descended, their movements synchronized, robotic. Black uniforms. Blank white masks. Katanas glinting in the sun.
They were all well-built and tall.
What was horrifying was that they all held a katana in hand. The sharm gleam from the blades shone in the sunlight beautifully creating a chilling scene.
"No…" someone muttered and boom!
Chaos erupted.
In front of the thirty mysterious agents was a small petite girl with long red hair flowing down to her waist. Unlike the others, she had holes in both eyes and the mouth. Her amethyst eyes glistened with a cold look.
They charged forward and the students faced with this scene could only panic and scramble back into the forest. But the speed of the agents in black was too horrifying.
With katana in their hands, they began slicing the students in half. Blood splattered and if anyone had any doubts they were all cleared. Either as they fled into the forest or as they looked at their severed body.
"Blackroom!" Tatsuya glared at the intruders with a murderous look and hurriedly grabbed Horikita's hand. "We have to run!"
With inhuman speed, he abandoned the rest of the class.
Behind them, the cries of the young teenagers echoed.
Boom! Rumble!
In a symphony, clouds began to gather above the island with thunder crackling inside them.
Pitter patter.
Raindrops mixed with blood stained the island as echoes of mercy flooded the scene.
"Hahahahahaha!!!"
Only the mad laughter of the red-haired girl echoed loudly among the cries of terror.
…
Horikita was still in a daze.
Her lungs burned as she panted for breath, her vision blurred. She didn't understand what was going on. Her hand was tightly grasped by Tatsuya and he was sprinting with all his might.
What is this speed…
The speed shocked Horikita.
A chill filled her mind as she realised, that the day she had tried to record him she hadn't lost focus. He had truly blitzed her.
As her thoughts became chaotic the cold chill brought by the rain woke her up.
"What the hell is going on!?" Horikita tried her best to not panic but the students behind her were getting slaughtered. No one could match Tatsuya's speed and she could only squint her eyes to see the fleeting figures of familiar students.
Her mind buzzed but Tatsuya did not answer.
He moved with all his might and only after finding a secluded spot did he enter it. He roughly pushed Horikita inside and used rocks to cover the entrance of the small cave.
Only when there was barely any light coming in did he stop and squat down with the bewildered Horikita.
His gaze was full of complex emotions and Horikita felt her mind slowly calm down.
She looked at Tatsuya, her eyes seeking answers.
His cryptic response at the beach was still fresh in her mind.
"Please… please explain."
Tatsuya's eyes flickered with incredible grief and rage. It took him some time to calm down as all his emotions seemed to merge into endless sorrow.
Horikita felt her heart grip with sympathy as Tatsuya looked at her and moved his lips.
"...This is all my fault."
