"We are really lucky to have arrived before the storm hits," one of the two men standing by the harbor said, as they watched the other men offload the goods.
"We really are, and it seems like today the storm is going to be quit bad," the other man commented as he stared at the darkened sky.
"Hopefully it will not last for long as we still need to go back and take the remaining merchandize other wise we will incur a huge loss and be unable to pay the crew and for the repairs," the first man voiced out staring at the ocean with a worried look.
"That is very true. But the crew will surely understand that we can not endanger our lives for goods by going back to the ocean with these kind of storm," the other man replied his eyes casting a far away look to the ocean.
"We are done with the loading," one of the crew informed.
"You should go home, am sure Monica is very worried that you are still not yet home, we will take the goods to the warehouse then retire to our homes before the storm hits," the first man spoke.
"Yes you are right. She must be worried and quite lonely as the boys are also not at home," the second man sighed as he remembered the problems he was currently having at home.
"I am certain things shall soon be better for all of you," the first man comforted as he also understood the dilemma the man on his right was currently facing.
"I know things will be better. Tomorrow I will call you to inform you of when we shall meet as I had already received news from a buyer who is interested in the cotton," he informed his partner a small smile gracing his features.
"That is wonderful news. At least we will now be able to pay half the crews salaries and have the ship repaired," the other said with a beaming smile.
"Captain!! Have a look what we have here!!" a loud voice yelled as the person came into view dragging a smaller frame of a person with him.
"Cyrus, why do you always have to shout?" the man he addressed as captain asked.
"Because it is the sea way," the man standing with the captain snickered.
"Sorry Captain, it's just that I found this girl in the ship in one of the boxes of cotton," he explained as he roughly pushed the girl to stand in front of the captain.
"Hey little girlie who the hell told you we offer free rides?" the other man of about forty years of age, yelled at the girl as he bent down to her about five foot five height.
"Language Jake," the Captain criticized his right hand man.
"No captain, this slimy child has to tell us what she was doing, what if she was sent to destroy our goods? Who sent you girlie? Have you done anything to the cotton boxes?" Jake yelled at the girl an already anxious look forming on his face.
The girl simply stared at the man, and just as the man was about to speak again, a fist landed on his face catching him off guard making him fall backwards.Making the crew snicker from where they were watching the scene.
"You piece of -" he yelled as he scrambled to stand up only to be cut off.
"Don't try insulting her, she is just a child and plus who told you to yell at her," the Captain said to the red-faced man before turning back to the girl.
"Child forgive my crew for their terrible behavior and their sailor's mouth," he said with a small laugh trying to ease the situation.
"Do tell me what your name is?" he asked bending to the girl's height and giving her a soft smile.
The girl simply looked at the other men around before landing her eyes on him and just giving him a confused stare.
"Where do you come from?" He asked again.
The girl just simply stared at him. He did not ask anymore questions after concluding that the girl could not speak.
"Jake, I think the girl cannot speak, we will drop her off at the station and they can hopefully be able to contact her parents," the Captain said to the pissed of man.
"You can take that bratty kid on your own otherwise you will not like me teaching her a few manners before we can get to the station," Jake sneered at the girl before walking away with man who brought the girl following behind him back to the ship.
"I guess you are coming with me girlie," the Captain said softly to the girl.
He turned around to walk to his car when a soft voice stopped him.
"Me no girlie me Ayla, me away water," she uttered the fear of being in a foreign land seeping into her hazel eyes.
"You can talk?" He turned around shocked, but the girl did not provide him with a response.
He continued, "Your name is Ayla? Where are you from? What is the name of your parents? How did you get into the ship? And do they know where you are?" he rained questions on the poor girl after recovering from the mild shock.
"Me talk, Away water, Me no people," the girl replied with a forlorn look.
"I do not understand your language dear, but it will start raining soon, you can come with me, we will talk later," the man hurriedly spoke before taking the girl's hand and dragging her into the car.
Just as the girl was about to protest that she wanted to go home not to the station and that her name was Ayla not dear, the heavens broke loose and the rain fell like there is no tomorrow with claps of thunder and lightning following right after giving the girl a bit of fright.
