The Next Morning
Sara crouched low by the creek, her face streaked with mud and sweat. The others had left to scavenge, but she preferred to stay hidden for now, watching the tree line for any sign of movement. She had lived in the shadows before—on the run, outsmarting authorities. This time, though, it was different. The stakes were higher.
Her mind raced with thoughts of Alex and Julie. She had unfinished business with them, business that burned like a white-hot ember in her chest. Alex had taken everything from her. He had ruined her life and stripped her of everything she once had. Julie, fragile and weak, was the reason she had lost it all.
Sara clenched her fists, the rage building inside her. But revenge couldn’t be rushed. She had to plan. She had to be smart. And first, she had to survive.
