Chapter seventeen
The whole room was thrown into chaos and Lin wei couldn't for the life of her, fathom why.
Are they really going to be gutted and deboweled?
Or perhaps they were going to get involved in a human trafficking saga?
She smiled nervously. She was already feeling bad for them.
Not only was she as thin as a chicken bone, she had nothing to offer them. Save for the two loaves of stale bread in her cupboard and some cat treats for miss meowgly.
Shen yue looked like she's about to have a bout of apoplexy. Olivia shook her head in a daze and Lin wei stared at the two incredulously.
"What's wrong?" She asked with a slight tremble in her voice.
Her mind flayed around all possibilities and "what if" scenarios until she couldn't take it anymore.
"Ezekiel Wang is! Omg I need to record this. This is my most honored moment in my whole life," Shen yue graped wildly around inside her handbag.
Olivia took pity on Lin wei and dropped an explanation. More like a bit of ramble and gushing with a throw of scrapped piece of information here and there. Lin wei tried but couldn't make sense of whatever it is she was saying.
"So, what you're saying right now, if I'm trying to get you right..." Shen yue asked after she's come down from her high. "Is that, you don't know who Ezekiel Wang is?"
And upon Lin wei's nod, the two ladies gasped as if betrayed.
"Where to start from?" Olivia asked in a dreamy voice.
"You can start by telling who he actually is," Lin wei asked with a bit of impatience. Who is hell was this Ezekiel Wang that could make drool form on grown women faces from daydreaming?
Olivia whipped out her phone and punched some words in quick succession, she all but flung the phone into Lin wei's face.
She took the phone from Olivia with ill-concealed dread. She squinted her eyes at the screen and almost screamed. It was a famous blog talking about Ezekiel Wang and his influence and networth.
Apparently this Ezekiel Wang is the CEO of Wang corporation, which is said to be one of the most influential and important corporation in Asian and European market.
His networth is estimated to be about some figures that Lin wei couldn't quite make sense of. Is that ten zero? She brought the phone closer to her eyes and squinted some more.
"So you see?" Olivia asked with a small smile.
Lin wei nodded sagely, while her heart was thumping so loud she was afraid they'll be able to hear her. She indeed, couldn't see anything. Her eyes were clouded with fear and rightly so.
Dread snaked its horrible cold arm around her spine and eventually took hold of her gut. Her stomach turned leaden with fear and she had a hard time trying to getting oxygen into her nostrils.
Was she really planning to deceive one of, if not the most richest man in the whole country? Perhaps even the continent?
The two people chatting beside her turned to a distant buzzing that she could easily blocked out of her mind. Her mind swam with different solutions. And the most frequency was that she leaves the mansion, board meeting cab and never look back again. The second and most stubborn mind insist that she finished what she has begun.
If eventually she was sent to jail for impersonation and lying, she shook her head to stop that train of thought. She pasted a smile on her face and squared her back. She imagined tightening the buckles and hooks of her armor. Because that is what is going on here.....war.
She glanced around the room, a few people were arranging themselves, their eyes shinning with happiness. Some were huddled in a corner and she could pratically hear their mind whirling with calculations. Just like her's was.
"Veronica? Veronica! What are you thinking about? Shen yue asked.
"I bet she's thinking of making connections," Olivia muttered under her breath.
"Rich people things!" Shen yue said gleefully.
Lin wei swatted them away, " don't be silly" she said with a small smile.
"What type of woman do you think he's going for then? Judging from your familiarity with people like him?" Olivia enquired zealously.
"What do you mean "people like him?" Lin wei asked, a bit confused.
"Oh don't be so formal! People that are rich like him. Maybe not like him, but at least you've had more contact with rich people than I've had in my whole life. I do not even want to imagine the slew of connections you have," she sighed balefully.
"Oh please! I..I'm..I was a very sheltered child. My parents preferred not to let me mingle with people of our caliber," she let out a nervous laugh.
Shen yue frowned and chewed her bottom lips. Doing the unthinkable to her teeth. Her red lipstick had stained her teeth and even Lin wei didn't have the heart to tell her.
Her face lit up as she came to conclusion. Lin wei's heart leapt into her throat.
"I guess your parents really want you to be well-mannered and not look down on other people lesser then you. I applaud them for that." Shen yue concluded
Olivia hesitated for a second before finally nodding in agreement. Lin wei said a silent prayer to the gods in heavens.
Her personality glamour cannot begin to wash off now. Or never, for that matter.
"That being said, how are we going to impress him? I mean..." Olivia trailed off, eyeing the lounge room and the people in there.
Lin wei thought the same and with a sigh. But the thought of her mother receiving the best cancer treatment propelled her forward.
Come what may, she must win this interview. She almost felt sorry for the others. If only they knew how determined she was...wouldn't they rethink?
She was ready to fight teeth and scrap for the position. It's not like she has any choice anyways.
She fiddled with the clasp of her "channel" bag and continue to send silent prayer to the deity or whoever was up there.
She really wants to win...no, she really has to be chosen.
