Chapter twenty
"Wait wait wait, go back, I didn't quite catch that part very well," Bai yue screeched from the other side of the line.
Lin wei hid a smile behind her hand, forgetting for a moment that she was done with putting up an act...at least for the day. She scowled darkly at no one.
Lin wei snuggled miss meowgly closer to her chest and sighed as she continue to regale her friend with the odious tale that happened today. She tightened her slack and continued to rub miss meowgly absently behind her.
"So apparently, this rich catch was actually the most richest catch of them all. The infamous Ezekiel Wang, I'm sure you know him," Lin wei said.
Lin wei could hear the sharp intake of breath from the other side but no words came forth.
"You aren't dead, are you?" She asked after a minute had pass without a word from Bai yue.
"I'm very very close to dying right now. I can't possibly be alive to see you get dragged to jail. Ezekiel fucking Wang? That Ezekiel Wang that make it to the list of Forbes billionaire under 30 every fucking year?" Bai yue asked in awe.
Lin wei could pratically hear the bells going off inside her friend's head. She said nothing as she continue to sip on her diet Coke. It was a buy one get one free sale.
"I'm not too sure but I think that might be him. That's not even on the top of my issue right now," she mumbled into the phone.
No, her issue was that she needs to get laid. Or something like that.
She eyed the drawer besides her bed. The content of the drawer hold a large appeal to her right now.
"If Ezekiel Wang isn't on the fucking list of your problem, then, I'm sorry for you. That problem is more than anymore in the whole world can solve for you," Bai yue snorted
"I think I'm in love with that warm honey-brown eyed cousin of his. He's as handsome as sin" Lin wei sighed dreamily " I'm ready to sin with him"
"Weiwei," Bai yue called with an amusement-laden voice "I think you're running mad" she let out a mad cackle.
"Oh laugh all you want, won't you?" Lin wei retorted as heat climbed the back of her neck. She patted her blushing cheeks and scowled at miss meowgly, which earn her a warning glare as she strode off.
"I'm not laughing at you," she giggled "It's just that everything is ridiculously funny that I can't keep track of it. So, all in the all, the interview is a disaster?"
A mad giggle forced it way out of her clenched throat, making both of them burst into laughter. They cackled like a couple of destitute before finally wheezing to a stop.
Lin wei caught her breath first, she wiped the tears of laughter with the corner of her shirt, "what am I supposed to do now?" She asked sullenly.
She watched from the corner of her eyes as miss meowgly circled closer to her feet. She smiled smugly. That entitled fur ball!
"Nothing. That's what you'll do. You'll do nothing while we wait for the results of the interview, alright?" Bai yue advised.
"Oh well, there's really nothing to do right now right? I messed up already. I might as well wait for the result of my mess while doing other things," Lin wei surmised with a small smile.
After a few more conversations,it was time for Bai yue to get back to her work.
Lin wei laid on her bed with her face facing the ceiling, she contemplated her life and her life choices..
She doesn't like to think about things when she was doing them. Not even words and sentences. She doesn't like thinking about them during the time of the happening.
She prefers to think about them later...when she was laying on her bed at night,... for the rest of her life.
No matter how hard she tries, she couldn't quite shake off the feeling that was something wrong.
It was like a dark cloud was hanging on her head, waiting for the most inopportune moment to fall. It was probably the rickety old ceiling and she was probably overthinking things just like she always does.
Thinking and overthinking are two different things which Lin wei excelled at.
Her stomach grumbled, alerting her of it's predicament. She sighed, at this point her blood pressure would plunge deep into the ground. Just like her mother would say.
"Constant sighing reduces your life expectancy.."
Lin wei considered it a load of bullshit. She smiled wildly as she put the ramen pot on the stove watching it bubble up.
She sometimes miss her mother so bad it hurts. Watching as the cancer drained the life out of her mother, is one of the most painful moment of her life.
She pushed those thought to the back of her mind, to the pile of stuff to be analyzed later.
She drained her ramen noodles and added the sauce, she blames herself for finishing the coke. The diet Coke would have been the most humble component to go with her ramen.
She opened a can of tuna for miss meowgly who sniffed and pushed the can about, before settling on her paws to enjoy her meal.
The light bulb in the kitchen blinked ominously, and Lin wei blinked back at it. It'd better hold on for a little more time.
She slurped on the noodles, trying so hard to ignore the nagging that was constant at the back of her mind. She made up her mind to visit her mom in the hospital tommorow. That should be enough motivation.
The light blink a few more times as if in sync with her thought, before going off and plunging the whole room into darkness.
Lin wei sighed as she stood up to fetch the candle, she thought the room was just as dark as her future.
Miss meowgly agreed with a small meow.
