*Matthew's POV*
I stared at the ring in my hand in stunned silence.
That had gone even worse than I expected. It had gone so bad that it felt like it was just a horrible dream. There was no way that was reality.
But as I stood on the sidewalk in the dim streetlights, I knew that it was no trick. My eyes glanced up, but Trinity was already long gone. Had I made a mistake? Should I have stopped her?
She told me not to, though, and I thought that if I gave her some space, that would be the best. Then she could process what I had told her and calm down on her own. I knew it had been a lot to take in at once.
However, her giving me back her ring wasn't expected.
My eyes stung, and I blinked, trying to keep the tears from spilling out. Who knew that a fight with Trinity could ever make me feel like this…?
So…
Heartbroken.
