A lonely figure emerged from the shadows, her presence glowed with divinity. Dipping her petite toes into the inky dark waters, her flowy white robe drenched but retained its white luminous glow. From afar, she could see the little blob bobbing to and fro in the middle of the lake, emitting a mysterious liquid dyeing the lake black.
Biting pain coursed through the slime, and the princess empathetically felt the pain with each tiny step. "My poor slime," she said her arms outstretched into an embrace to share and dissipate the hurt the little slime endured. With eyes half opened, Gully faintly saw a blurry-looking face, before passing out again.
"Eloquinese."
As the word left her lips, streams of white light burst out from the princess, engulfing the slime and the lake. As the sudden glaring brightness faded into tiny sparks, the lake turned clear and the slime relaxed his expression, falling into a restful state.
Moments later, the slime woke up shocked in a luxurious king-sized bed. The slime looked around the unfamiliar room and discovered it had changed into a different-looking slime. It was no longer black but carried a light greenish hue like the tip of a freshly picked young tea leave.
"What happened to me?" Gully looked at the Midori slime in the mirror and then the slim figure stretching in a yoga wheel pose. "You!" Gully blurted and covered his mouth within a heartbeat.
"You recognised me?" the princess said with a wide grin, her eyes almost popped out of excitement.
However, Gully was dumbfounded as he hadn't the slightest clue who she was. That was until he saw a portrait of her with a crown. Recognising the royal insignia on the crown, he hazarded a guess, "Your Highness?"
"I knew I saved the right slime!" she squealed excitedly. "You're now a noble slime from the Midori lineage, aren't you happy?"
"What!"
"Luckily, your family is related to the ancient Midori clan. I have a hard time crystalising your core and removing all those impurities," she said flipping her blonde hair.
"Impurities?" Gully was mildly taken aback but he wondered if it had anything to do with Marvyn.
"Seeing how you know me, let me clue you in... you became a scapegoat and I saved your life, so now you belong to me," she giggled and felt extremely proud that she did a great deed. "Anyway, you're safe here. But you have a few things to take care of."
"Princess..." Gully said with concern.
"Don't stand on the ceremony, please call me Nightingale," she smiled. "You can also call me by my code name when we are in public."
"Code name?" Gully echoed.
"Yes, it's Suha," she replied.
"But why do you need a code name? The other royals do not have any," the Midori slime asked.
"Each of us has a code name when we surveil the kingdom, you plebians just aren't aware of it," she said haughtily, but deep down she knew he was right.
"Right...," Gully told the person he's indebted to with a doubtful look. He glanced around and noticed no attendants in sight. It was weird that a princess was without a knight or trusted aide.
"You shall be my squire, a knight in training." She chirped.
"I think I better return home," Gully quickly added.
"Without graduating from the school? That will be unheard of, what will your parents think?" The princess pressured. "Just so you know, I'm the top graduate in my cohort, you will receive the best training from me after school. And with my connection, I can get you back under another identity," said the princess, an impromptu plan scheming from her random thoughts.
Gully never really liked going to school. On the entrance day, a monster that fell from the sky and injured him. Luckily, his defence and life stats were decent enough to save him from elimination. When he was assigned to his dormitory, his tiny room was suddenly flooded by raijins and cleaning bugs, giving him the jitters. Not to mention the frequent nightmares of ghostly figures. If his parents did not pressure him, he would rather stay out of it. He felt he was just not cut out for it. The last straw came when someone controlled him and made him commit murder. School was traumatising.
"Uh...," the midori slime hesitated with an answer. He knew it was the main route for adulting but his body reacted reluctantly.
The princess, feeling his anxiety, quickly offered another solution, "Here, drink this. This will help with your stress."
Gully nervously drank the yellow potion, wondering why he felt comfortable in her presence. She is one of the royal family after all. Everyone felt an intimidating presence from them. "Perhaps it's her looks, her eyes looked like an unevolved slime's eyes... did she grow up correctly?" he wondered.
"The calming potion will help to ease your emotional pain and anxiety, but it's not the main solution. I would prefer not to force you to go back to school, but we don't have much choice..." the princess sighed.
Walking to a shelf of books, she delicately stroked the spine of a red leather book. The cabinet of books turned into a red door with a golden knob. "Follow me," she said to Gully as the door opened and showed a room with a series of numbered buttons.
Gully followed, he hadn't had much choice.
The princess closed the door behind her and pressed B4. "There are some secrets I uncovered which I need your help with. If not, all of us will be in danger. And you're the only one we know who might be able to help with this right now," she said as the door chimed signalling that they reached the desired level.
Pushing the door open, Gully saw a room filled with files, photos, and detective boards. His stomach started to churn a little..., "Why do I have a bad feeling about this?"
