The Adventure Begins

A ragtag band of Orcs, Monsters, and an Elf emerged from the enchanting machinations of the Divine Gateway. Lance caught a glimpse of someone with the name 'Buttercup' and promptly averted his eyes. Although he was nearly certain she wouldn't recognize him, a flicker of uncertainty flashed through his eyes, he didn't want his journey to be cut so soon.

"So how did you all get your capsules so early?" Lance quickly changed the atmosphere after noticing Buttercup was there as well.

"Well, I'm a Pheonix Initiative, I do live streaming and Stalwart just randomly had an associate assemble one at my house." Ray then began a tangent about how weird the looks the guy was giving him as the capsule was delivered.

"My sister and I run a PC Cafe. Stalwart Games reached out to us via email about a business opportunity involving placing capsules in our lineup of machines, and we jumped at the chance." ATrain, still buzzing with teenage excitement, bounced around and weaved through the group members.

"Haha," Bear chuckled heartily as he began to elaborate on his involvement. "My wife works as a graphics designer at Stalwart Games, allowing us to pre-order the capsules before they hit the market."

'I wonder if he looks like a dwarf in real life too?' but Lance swiftly dismissed that idea as Elise began speaking. "I'm actually at a PC Cafe right now." With a gracious smile, she glanced toward Nyxius and her brother.

All eyes turned to Osiris, looking for him to spill the beans on how he snagged a capsule. His response was a simple shrug. "I just had one," he said casually. Despite Ray and Train persistently prodding him for more details, that was the extent of the information he was willing to give.

"I'm also a Phoenix initiative, they just randomly pulled up to my house and installed the capsule" Lance responded after everyone else had a go at convincing Osiris. "But we should also be heading up to a wolf den, we should use this time to get adjusted to the feeling of VR, since I don't know about you. But this is my first time playing a VR game" A chorus of agreement echoed throughout the group as they realized they didn't know how to use any of their abilities.

"Ok guys, I learned how to use abilities in this game!" ATrain called out "So, according to the ability guide. Depending on your ability, you must pose differently with your body." ATrain got low to the ground and put his arms out in a low crouch "So for example, if I do this" his body started to shake and blur before he turned almost incorporeal "See, I'm using stealth right now!"

They all stared at him in surprise, his body had almost morphed into the grass path they were walking on, it would have been tough to spot him if they weren't already staring at him as he transformed.

"When did you guys get a tutorial?" Lance looked visibly confused, when he was creating his character there was not a tutorial for him or even an infodump about what the controls do, the game had just put him in blind.

"I didn't get one," Ray said as he looked toward the other members of the group, getting visual recognition that none of them had gotten one either.

"Well this is fucking awkward, did the devs forget to implement a tutorial?" Bear turned towards the still half-invisible ATrain, "Hey Boy, how did you manage to open the menu?"

"Uhm, It appeared after I thought 'Menu' in my head, so you probably have to think of the commands that you want to activate."

'Menu' Lance thought out the command in his head, and a red screen appeared in front of him, showing him his character panel
