The blind spot

As we step out of the treehouse, the weight of Kena’s revelations still lingers in the air, and I can see Liam is preoccupied. He starts the bike, but his mind appears to be elsewhere. It’s only when I nudge him that he seems to snap back to reality.

“Hey, aren’t we gonna grab something to eat?” I ask, my stomach grumbling in agreement.

Liam blinks, slowing down and turning the bike around. “Sorry... I got lost in thought. Do you have a place in mind?”

“You seem out of it. Didn’t you suggest the place where they serve the best duck in town?” I say, getting a bit worried.

He sighs, a faint smile gracing his lips. “Yeah... sorry. We’re going to Mr. Ming’s Noodle House. But never mind the noodles. It’s the roast duck that people are lining up for.”

The idea of food is a welcome distraction, and I chuckle. “I can eat practically anything right now. But maybe not snakes.”

Liam lets out a weak chuckle. “Never judge a dish you haven’t tried.”
