This incredible band of freaks and misfits

The air outside Butler Library feels charged with tension, a palpable current that makes every step heavier, every breath thicker. I can’t shake the uneasy feeling that has settled in the pit of my stomach. As we step onto the path, I find myself lagging behind, a hesitant beat to my stride.

If Liam is angry with me, if he’s harboring any resentment, I dread the thought of facing him alongside his formidable dragon. The image of being caught in its relentless jaws flashes through my mind. I quicken my pace, unable to shake the apprehension that claws at me.

When he turns to look at me, his gaze warm and unguarded, I’m taken aback. “What’s wrong?” he asks, genuine concern coloring his voice.

“Are we— flying again?” I venture, my voice a fragile whisper.

He chuckles, the sound reassuring. “And reveal to the campus that I’m a freak? No way. We’re going on my bike.”
