Does School always suck this much?

(Helicarrier, somewhere above the US, maybe Orlando)

Hill: "Director, with all due respect, why do we need to send Cole in to find the superhumans? We're SHIELD, intelligence gathering is our forte, we could've just given him a list of all the suspected and confirmed superhumans in Midtown High"

Fury: "The kid's been a soldier all his life, Hill. If we gave him a list of names, he'd just watch them from a distance. He's 17, he should be goofing off with his dumbass friends, not assassinating national threats. We didn't provide him with the names so he would have talk to people to figure it out. And hopefully, he'll learn to have some fun while he's at it"

Hill: "Wow. If I didn't know better, it'd sound like you cared"

Fury: *chuckles* "Well, looks like I'm getting old, Hill. I don't have it in me anymore to force a kid to be a weapon, national interests be damned."

Hill walked away without another word, but to the extremely trained eye, the faintest smile could be seen threatening to appear on her face.

(Midtown High, New York)

*groan* "This fucking sucks"

Gwen: "You're acting like it wasn't this bad at your last school"

"My last school? Oh yeah, it was pretty much the same"

Elijah couldn't exactly tell her that he had never been to a school before, of any kind. Bit weird for a 17 year old to have never been in a school (Well, unless we're talking about that time in Bulgaria, but that was an in-and-out 20 minute assassination, so doesn't count)

It was finally lunch break after 3 grueling hours of classes. Somehow, Gwen being there for most of them made it much better, though. They were now walking through the halls making their way to the cafeteria. The halls seemed odd to Elijah. White tiling adorned the floors as dark blue lockers spanned the length of the wall. It was an extremely different vibe to the Helicarrier's dark and broody scheme. If Elijah was honest, he preferred this. Maybe he'd make a suggestion to Fury.

As they entered the cafeteria, Gwen turned her head to look around for something, finally stopping when her eyes landed on a table with some people.

Gwen: "Elijah, come on. You're a new transfer so you probably don't have any friends yet, right? Come sit with mine. I promise they don't bite...except for MJ, she has a track record"

Elijah was walking towards the table with her, but upon hearing the last part he did a quick 180 and got ready to run, but was grabbed by Gwen before he could. She dragged him with her to the table.

"Huh. She's weirdly strong"

(Elijah's POV)

Gwen: "Hey guys!"

They all returned her greeting before processing that their 5'5 friend was dragging a 5'11 dude they had never seen before towards their table.

???: "Uh, who's that, and why are you dragging him like you're Steve Irwin and he's a particularly feisty crocodile?"

Gwen: "Oh, this is Elijah. Elijah, starting from the left, this is Harry, Miles, Mary Jane (we call her MJ), and Peter"

"Nice to meet you all, I just transferred in and Gwen was showing me around"

They all returned my greetings as they made space for me and Gwen to sit down. We started to get to know each other and they were pretty cool people. Miles was a point guard for the basketball team, MJ was the singer for a band which Gwen was apparently the drummer for, Harry was a surprisingly cool rich kid and Peter was a bona-fide genius. Well, I'm still better at engineering since I've been making my own battle gear since I was 10. Only thing I can't do is chemistry. Fuck chemistry.

Peter: "So Elijah, what brings you to Midtown high?"

"I had to move to New York for...personal reasons"

"Can't exactly tell them I'm here on a mission from an Eye patched Super Spy"

Miles: "Oh shit, it's alright man, divorce happens a lot. What's important is you don't blame yourself for your parents splitting up"

"WHAT. THAT IS NOT WHY I'M HERE!"

The table burst into a fit of laughter from our exchange. I have to admit, having friends is...pretty fun. I wasn't exactly alone at SHIELD, but it was a far cry from 'Friends'. They were more like colleagues I got along with. It's hard to make friends when you're a 17 year old at an intelligence agency with an average age of 35. And the place I was at before that? Friends, hah, not a chance.

Getting to know them was fun too. Peter was super into sciences, super into heroes, and was kinda scrawny as well, so the combination of those two elements gave him a sort of super nerd vibe, but despite that he seemed like a great dude.

Miles was an athlete, but he was pretty smart too. Aced his tests, won some science competitions. He wasn't a jock, and seemed to have a pretty good set of morals. Hates bullying, and tends to butt heads with someone called Flash for picking on Peter. All in all, he has a good head on his shoulders. Makes sense since apparently his Dad's a police officer.

Mary Jane, or MJ, as she told me to call her, is the most fiery red-head you've ever seen. Model-like beauty mixed with deep-rooted confidence and a seemingly indomitable will. I 100% believe she is capable of biting people if annoyed. Now I'm having flashbacks to the Chihuahua. Moving on.

Harry Osborne was a name many seemed to know in this school. He's the son of a CEO of some large company, but despite all the familial wealth, he seems like a stand-up guy. Doesn't flaunt his money, wears regular clothes, and doesn't talk down to anyone. Pretty rare for a guy with a dad who could buy the school on a whim. And, judging by the glances he keeps shooting towards a girl on another table when he thinks no-one is looking and the blush that appeared on his face when she caught him looking and smiled, a desperately in-love guy, at that.

Gwen was something else. Half shaved Blonde hair with pink highlights on the tips, and piercings gave her this sort of rebellious mystique. Her face was adorned with freckles and a tiny gap in her front teeth. She seemed to be confident as well, not as much as MJ, but enough to talk to a random transfer student and invite him to lunch, so pretty confident. Her dad seems to be a police captain, so it seems her morals are as straight laced as Miles'.

Honestly, meeting all of them made this mission a bit more bearable. Just a bit.

(No-one POV)

Although he was having fun, Elijah had to get up from the table and leave early. He had a mission, after all. After giving them the excuse that he was going to look around the school for a bit, he promptly left the cafeteria and started walking down the hall.

"Time to find some superhumans"
