Dark clouds hung above the distant mountains to the east, a portent of inclement weather that would soon begin to blow towards them from across the plains. The only relief was that at least they'd reached their destination now, and wouldn't be delayed again.

The trees and bushes and grasses rustled softly as a wind began to blow, a hint of coolness that promised colder nights ahead and made her wonder if soon the path between their kingdoms would be hampered by snow.

As they made their way uphill, they came to a large lake that spread across the valley below, surrounded by rocky cliffs that overlooked the waters.

The dark water on the lake reflected the evening stars already beginning to show as the sun set.
