Chapter 53
SOPHIA'S POV
I opened my eyes slowly. My head ached like I had a hangover, but I couldn't remember when I had had one.
My heart was pounding as if I had just been punched in the chest.
My blurry vision cleared.
I found myself lying on a rather odd bed. It seemed to be made out of palm leaves, tied together with very long strips of vine. I touched my head and found a bump the size of a grapefruit. I must have had a concussion. A fair amount of my hair was in knots and my hands were badly cut and bruised. I had several deep cuts and bruises on my arms and legs, and one on my chin. My ribs felt very tender and sore.
My heart continued to pound and I felt dizzy.
All around me, the scene was pure black.
No sky, no trees, nothing.
It looked like night, except there was a bright, shimmering light that seemed to emanate from the ground.
