This time, I had a plan. Instead of asking rapid-fire questions like I had with Jake's fiancée, I would ease into it with Kole from Kole's Krafty Keys. Jake's fiancée had all but shut down and run away from me. I couldn't let that happen again. I needed answers, now more than ever.
But my plan fled out the window as soon as I walked into the store.
A puppy bounded after a ball straight for me, tongue wagging out the side of its mouth. Its huge feet skidded all over the waxed floor, failing to gain traction. It was so determined to get that ball, though, that it didn't even realize I'd stepped in its way. Before it could crash into me or spiral into orbit out the front door, I scooped it up. The puppy thanked me by slathering my face with kisses.
"Oh, yes, I love you too," I cooed.
